PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY SHRI PRAKASH JAVADEKAR,
NATIONAL SPOKESPERSON OF BJP
The BJP strongly condemns the Centre and the Andhra Pradesh Congress Government for acting as “helping hands” for Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi to become a “hero” out of his hate speech.
Owaisi, who should have been arrested forthwith on his arrival in Hyderabad from London was allowed to be given a “heroic welcome” and the police instead, gave him protection. This is a dubious and condemnable act.
The double standards of the Congress government is writ-large by the fact that while Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his supporters who were holding a peaceful protest, were lathicharged in a midnight crackdown, Anna Hazare was arrested to prevent him from participating in a hunger strike, and a person from Puducherry arrested within hours for tweeting against the Karti Chidambaram, the son of the Union Finance Minister, Owaisi and leaders like Syed Ali Shah Geelani enjoy the wilful protection of the Congress government.
In a democracy, hate speech has no place and by not arresting Owaisi forthwith, the Congress is creating yet another Frankenstein monster in the South.
Predictably, Owaisi is using his alleged ill health as an alibi to prevent his arrest. We strongly condemn the Congress Government for allowing him this opportunity. As per standard criminal procedures, Owaisi should have been arrested at the airport on his arrival and presented before the Court and then given medical treatment under the supervision and direction of the Court, if at all required.
Dissolution of Jharkhand Assembly
The only way out in Jharkhand political imbroglio is to dissolve the assembly and conduct fresh elections. Shri Arjun Munda has already recommended the dissolution of the assembly as no party enjoys a clear majority and a fresh election is the only alternative.
Naxal violence
The BJP strongly condemns the killing of seven CRPF personnel in a gun battle with Maoist guerrillas in Latehar district in Jharkhand on Monday. Several CRPF personnel were also injured in the incident.
The recent killings of the CRPF personnel is a grim reminder of the failure of the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre to put in place a fool-proof, unified strategy along with the States affected by the Naxal violence to prevent such attacks.
BJP-ruled States like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh have been working hard to contain the menace through broad-basing developmental activities so that youths get viable employment and thus do not take up arms or join the ranks of Naxals. However, lack of adequate support and political will on the part of the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre, are the major reasons for repeated incidents of Naxal attacks targeted at Police and Para-military personnel.
BJP would like to once again appeal to the Centre to extend massive support to the States affected by the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) and also take State Governments into confidence in building a strong unified strategy that would help check growing Naxalism and prevent such Naxal attacks in the future.
In 2011, as many as 1760 incidents of Left Wing Extremists violence were reported which resulted in death of 611 civilians/security forces personnel. In 2012 (up to July 31), 950 incidents of LWE violence have been reported resulting in the death of 278 civilians/security forces personnel.
A total number of 142 security personnel were martyred in 2011 and 85 security personnel have been martyred in 2012 (up to July 31). The majority of civilians killed by the Maoists are tribals.
