The BJP demands a time-bound court monitored CBI inquiry into the kickbacks in the purchase of 12 AW101 helicopters worth over Rs 3,500 crores. The CBI inquiry will not yield any result in the UPA regime without monitoring by the Court. In other major scams like 2G scam, the congress has ordered probe under public pressure but subsequently delayed the investigation. Only after Supreme Court suo motu started monitoring the 2G scam, it started yielding results otherwise it was a lame duck inquiry for 15 months.

The BJP charges the government of avoiding a proper inquiry into the VVIP Chopper scam even as the issue of kickbacks came to light last year itself in Italian and Indian media.  The Italian Government started probing the charges seriously thereafter, but Indian Government showed no interest to conduct any serious probe. In fact news reports indicate that government’s internal inquiry was eager to give “clean chit” to the deal.  BJP demands the details of MoD’s internal inquiry and how the Government arrived at the conclusion that there was no “foul play”.

Interestingly, Government did not refer to this internal inquiry in its reply to my question in Rajya Sabha on December 12, 2012. The answer mentioned helplessness by saying that “in the absence of any specific information, Government has not started any formal probe in this regard by Indian agencies.”  Actually Government can start probe based on the basis of information from sources and need not wait for any official communication from Italy.

The transcripts of taped conversation between the Haschke and his accomplice Gerosa, was available in the public domain for over four months now.  The GoI did not bother to take note of it.

Due to the disinterested approach of the Government to probe in this murky deal, Indian operations chief of Finmeccanica Mr Girasole, one of the links in the kickback could leave India.

Ministry of Defence, instead of accepting its fault is trying to deflect the issue by bringing in unnecessarily the “technical specifications” and dragging the name of NDA.  The issue is not technical specification but the real issue is the corruption and the kickbacks and Government’s failure to order timely probe and find out the Indian beneficiaries.

The Congress Government is neck deep in corruption.  CWG, 2G, Coal, Loan Waiver and many other scams have become the hallmark of the UPA government.

The latest VVIP chopper scam is a major scam where Government must answer the issue bothering the nation.
