Press Release

PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED BY
BJP NATIONAL SPOKESPERSON AND MP,
SHRI PRAKASH JAVADEKAR

CHINA’S INCURSION

The recent incursion by China’s army into the Indian Territory is a very serious issue.  Two weeks ago 50 People’s Liberation Army soldiers, escorted by two helicopters, infiltrated into Ladakh, 10 kms inside India’s territory near the Daulat Beg Oldie sector, which has the highest air strip in the world and set up a camp in an abandoned Indian bunker. Strategically speaking, Daulat Beg Oldie sector is one of the most important sectors for India and during 1962 war too Indian Air Force had conducted sorties from this air strip.

Unfortunately, the Government is not taking the issue very seriously.  It is not the first time that Chinese troops have infiltrated or intruded into Indian Territory.  There has been constant Chinese infiltration in Arunachal Pradesh.  Whether it is a case of Stapled visa for natives of Jammu and Kashmir or Arunachal or China’s infrastructural and strategic build up in Gilgit-Baltistan of PoK, China is busy in aggressively increasing its influence in India’s neighbourhood.   The growing presence of China in Pakistan, Nepal, Myanmar, Maldives and Sri Lanka is already a matter of grave concern.

Even as the incursion of China in Ladakh is a serious issue, the Government appears to be relying too much on the Flag meeting to resolve the issue instead of raising the issue at the highest level.

The BJP demands that Government of India must take up the issue with China at the level of Prime Minister, External Affairs Minister and the Defence Minister as the seriousness of the issue demands.

2G AND COAL BLOCK SCAM

The way the probe and the JPC investigation are progressing into the 2G and Coal Block allocation Scam reflects a common pattern of protecting the Prime Minister and the Congress.  The Government and the Congress party are deliberately trying to cover up the monumental corruption that occurred under the direct knowledge of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.  Thankfully, the more the Congress and Government are trying to cover it up, they are getting further exposed.

The Government and the Congress had been consistently maintaining that the Prime Minister was misled by the then Telecom Minister A Raja in the 2G allocation issue.  However, later it came into light that the then Principal Secretary in Prime Ministers OfficeT K A Nair and the Secretary to Prime Minister Mr. Pullock Chatterjee on Manmohan Singh’s December 29, 2007 order, had examined Mr Raja’s letters and agreed to the “three-stage process” change in the first-cum-first-serve policy in a “comparative chart” drawn up by Mr Chatterjee.   Thus, it clearly establishes it was not Prime Minister who was misled but it was actually the nation misled by the Prime Minister and his government.

The entire Winter Session of Parliament in 2010 could not take place because of the rigidness of the Congress Government on accepting a JPC probe into the 2G scam.  Subsequently, on the very first day of the next session, the Government accepted this demand of the BJP under the public pressure.

Now the whole Joint Parliament Committee (JPC), headed by Congress MP Shri P C Chako, has been turned into ‘Just Protect Congress’ report.  The JPC Chairperson not only denied Mr Raja to depose before the committee despite his repeated requests, he also ensured that  Prime Minister and the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram are not summoned by the committee.

Similarly in the Coal Scam it has now turned up that the Status Report filed by the CBI in the Supreme Court has been tutored by the Prime Minister’s Office and the Law Minister. The vetting of the Status Report has been deliberately done to dilute it as the Prime Minister was a direct signatory in all coal block allocations between 2006 and 2009 as the then Coal Minister. In an audacious manner the Parliamentary Affairs Minister has commented that the Law Minister Ashwini Kumar was infact not vetting the coal block status report but was merely correcting the grammatical errors; thus, we need to know whether he is a law minister or a self appointed grammarian.

The CBI’s submission in Supreme Court also reveals that there was no record of due diligence during 2004-2009 while allocating the coal blocks.  It proves that the sanction of the coal blocks by the Prime Minister as Coal Minister in the UPA regime between 2006 and 2009 was completely arbitrary. The reasons for allocation and rejection of application were not recorded in any minutes. This clearly shows the direct involvement of the Prime Minister in both 2G and Coal Scams.

The BJP reiterates its demand for the immediate resignation of Prime Minister and the Law Minister.
