The policy of partial deregulation of diesel prices as announced today by the UPA Government is yet another glaring example of its insensitive approach towards the common man. It has permitted the oil companies to go for Rs 9.60 per litre hike in coming months which will further stoke inflationary expectations in the economy.
It seems that the UPA Government has no oil pricing policy to work with and it resorts to knee jerk reaction whenever there is a price movement in the international market.
Our nation needs a broad based, people-friendly oil pricing policy which does not push inflation higher and gives relief to common people including the farmers who use diesel in many agricultural activities. This proposed nearly 10 Rupee hike will be a massive blow to the farmers of this country.
The Government needs to review its existing oil pricing policy and the decision for partial deregulation should be reversed.
