Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader and Lok Sabha MP, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad addressed a press conference at the party's central office in New Delhi, on Monday. In the conference, Shri Prasad exposed Congress' hateful mindset towards Babasaheb Ambedkar and made key revelations backed by facts. During the press conference, BJP National Spokesperson Shri Prem Shukla, was also present.
Shri Prasad stated that the same Congress party, which has consistently disrespected, mocked and humiliated Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, is now pretending to demand rights in his name. The Congress party has always been anti-Ambedkar. This is why they neither established nor allowed the establishment of memorials for Babasaheb. In contrast, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji's government has consistently incorporated Babasaheb's ideals into its policies and has restored sites related to him. Furthermore, memorials have been established at every place associated with Babasaheb in his honor. Congress should offer an unconditional apology to the entire nation for the disrespect shown to Babasaheb Ambedkar by its leaders and Pandit Nehru.
Senior BJP leader Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad stated that the Congress party is staging a drama with press conferences against the BJP across the country. This is the same Congress that has always insulted the nation's great son, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar and prevented him from becoming a member of the Constituent Assembly. Now, they are pretending to show affection for Babasaheb. The Congress, which defeated Babasaheb in the 1952 Lok Sabha elections and the 1954 by-election and forced him to resign from the position of the country’s Law Minister, is the same party that never awarded him the Bharat Ratna. The Congress, which blocked the construction of any memorial for Babasaheb, is now holding press conferences in his name. Congress should put an end to this hypocrisy.

In his resignation letter, Babasaheb Ambedkar expressed strong criticism of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Babasaheb wrote, “I have been wondering whether there is any other parallel in the world to the condition of Schedule Caste in India. I cannot find any. And yet, why is no relief granted to the Schedule Castes? Compare the concern the government shows over safeguarding Muslims. The Prime Minister's attention is devoted to the protection of Muslims. I yield to none, not even the Prime Minister, in my desire to give the Muslims of India the utmost protection. But what I want to know is, are Muslims the only people who need protection?" These are some of the key points from Babasaheb's resignation letter.
Shri Prasad remarked that this is why the Congress never made Babasaheb’s resignation letter public. The Congress party must explain why it chose to hide Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s resignation from the people. If it had been revealed, it could have tarnished Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s image. Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah also highlighted this issue during a parliamentary discussion, mentioning that Nehru had told Dr. B.C. Roy in a political context that Babasaheb Ambedkar’s resignation would make no difference. It is beyond comprehension with what face the Congress party is doing all this.

In Madhya Pradesh, during BJP Chief Minister Shri Sundarlal Patwa’s tenure, a memorial was constructed at Babasaheb’s birthplace, which was inaugurated by the late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Former Prime Minister Shri Chandrashekhar had approved land for the Ambedkar Center in Delhi, but the Congress party prevented its construction. It was only when Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji's government came to power that the Ambedkar Center was completed. The Modi government also created a memorial in London where Babasaheb lived, established a memorial at his residence in Delhi and developed memorials at Deeksha Bhoomi in Nagpur and Chaitya Bhoomi in Mumbai. The Congress party took no steps to honor Babasaheb’s memory and only created obstacles. Meanwhile, across the country, hundreds of memorials, hospitals, and roads have been named after Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi.

Babasaheb Ambedkar was not appointed Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution merely because he belonged to a Scheduled Caste but because he was the most educated and accomplished member of the Constituent Assembly. A distinguished lawyer, Babasaheb held three master’s degrees from Columbia University in different disciplines and earned every qualification with unwavering dedication. Babasaheb also authored a pamphlet titled "No Peon - No Water," recounting a painful childhood experience. Due to untouchability, Scheduled Caste children were not allowed to drink directly from water pots. Instead, they had to wait in line to be served water. One day, when the peon failed to show up, the children were denied water altogether. In Baroda, when Babasaheb was denied a place to stay, he took refuge in a park or under a makeshift shelter. Despite enduring immense hardships and humiliation, he upheld the Constitution as his guiding principle and chose the path of democracy. Today, the Constitution enshrines the ideals of justice, equality, and fraternity, and Article 17 has abolished untouchability entirely. Babasaheb’s visionary thinking ensured that everyone is given an equal opportunity to progress and thrive.
Shri Prasad highlighted that BJP MP Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi had once shared an incident in Parliament where Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru wrote a letter to Edwina Mountbatten expressing his relief at Babasaheb Ambedkar no longer being in the Cabinet. A party with such a mindset and history now claiming to honor Babasaheb is utterly shameful. The Congress party must put an end to this hypocrisy. The way Pandit Nehru and other Congress leaders mistreated and insulted Babasaheb Ambedkar (with documented evidence to support it) demands an unconditional apology from the Congress. Moreover, the Congress is now trying to politicize a small excerpt from Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah's speech by presenting it out of context. However, the people of this nation are perceptive and see through such tactics. These attempts by the Congress are destined to fail.

It is crucial to understand the difference in the ideologies of the BJP and the Congress. The BJP believes that anyone who has contributed sincerely to the country's progress should be honoured, while the Congress Party focuses solely on elevating one family. During the tenure of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the BJP published a book on EMS Namboodiripad, as Shri Atal Ji had stated that a book would be published in honor of those who contributed to nation-building. Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, even leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav, Ram Vilas Paswan and Sharad Pawar were awarded the Padma Vibhushan. The BJP respects even its fiercest opponents, recognizing their efforts to contribute to the country's growth, while the Congress party seems to only prioritize one family.
Shri Prasad remarked that the respect shown by the BJP to Babasaheb Ambedkar and Sardar Patel is well-known. Sardar Patel passed away in 1950, but he was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna 42 years later, in 1991. Maulana Azad, who passed away in 1959, was also awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1992. At that time, the Prime Minister of India was Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao. If a member of the Gandhi family had been Prime Minister, the responsibility of awarding these honors would have fallen to the government of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Since Maulana Azad and Sardar Patel were opposed to Nehru, the Congress Party did not honor them,and the same attitude was extended to Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. This is the history of Rahul Gandhi’s family. Rahul Gandhi carries the legacy of the Congress party’s disrespect towards Babasaheb, and he should put an end to this drama.
