Statement issued by BJP National President

Shri Rajnath Singh

Recollecting the resolution of the BJP National Executive on the construction of Sri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya passed in Palampur (Himachal Pradesh) in 1989, the BJP National President Sh. Rajnath Singh urged the UPA Govt. to be serious on Ayodhya issue.

He added: "if the Prime Minister could hold talks with Huriyat leaders, why the talks can not be held with concerned parties on Ayodhya issue."

Sh. Singh disclosed that the NDA Govt. initiated measures to solve this tangle under which the process to set up Ayodhya Cell and to negotiate with both parties concerned was started. But the process could not reach its logical conclusion due to paucity of time.

The BJP President urged the Prime Minister to revive Ayodhya Cell, which was disbanded by the UPA Govt. and to start negotiations with concerned parties to solve the problem. "It is the considered view of the BJP that it is better to solve Ayodhya issue through negotiations." Sh. Singh observed. But if necessity arose, the BJP, if returned with absolute majority, would favour making law to solve the issue.

Sh. Singh called upon the Prime Minister that he should not see the Ayodhya issue with political angle but, instead should see it with unity and integrity of the Country keeping in view. The BJP does not consider this issue mere political one but for BJP it is linked with the culture of the nation.

Advocating the enforcement of Common civil code in the Country, the BJP President has asked for a national debate on this issue. Citing Supreme Court Judgements, he said that the Apex court of the country has twice emphasized the necessity of enforcing common civil code in the country.

This issue is not about Hindu Vs Muslim but is about Conservatism Vs Progressivism. The enforcement of Common Civil Code would generate amity and harmony in the Country.
