UPA Government's submission to Liberhans Commission about Ayodhya is political motivated drama, deliberately enacted on the eve of election. First, this has been done after many notices by the commission and 23 days after closing of the arguments. This itself proves the political intention of the UPA Government, which wants to keep the issue alive by resorting to falsehood. Second, fourteen years have lapsed and neither any concrete evidence of conspiracy has come forward nor there is any new revelations. By submitting such a baseless, legally untenable and factually far away from truth report, Government is making a farce of the whole episode.
The Government owes an explanation as to why it was late and why the submission was done on eve of elections. It may be recalled that in the past also the UPA Government has resorted to similar election eve gimmicks. Last year during Bihar assembly elections the Government had tabled Justice U.C. Banerjee interim report on Godhra.
The NDA Government had submitted earlier a detailed report with Liberhans Commission based on facts and circumstantial evidences, which clearly stated that the destruction of disputed structure in Ayodhya was a fallout of instant mass outrage. The UPA Government has not brought forward any new evidence to the contrary but has resorted to a political rhetoric. The UPA Government should have borne in mind that political views and parties may be different but governance is a continuous process and as such should not be used for political expediency.
Another example of the UPA Government's attempt to influence the Ayodhya issue was when in August last year the Government questioned the CBI director Mr. U.S. Mishra as to why and how no appeal was filed against BJP leader L.K. Advani's discharge in the case related to inflammatory speeches leading to Babri Masjid demolition. The UPA Government's tall claims of non-interference in the CBI working was exposed in their same note asking the director to even report "internal deliberations" in the agency and explain its "internal mechanism". This was the second time the UPA intervened in the case. Earlier on December 8, 2004 Prime Minister's Office through their Joint Secretary, Pulok Chaterjee had tried to arm twist the CBI in the Ayodhya case. Such direct inquisition by the Government is unprecedented. The UPA is charged of working through a political agenda.
The BJP and its leaders will file the reply to the commission in the given period. We hold that the best way out of Ayodhya impasse is settlement by negotiation between both the communities and we will try to achieve this sooner than later.
