Press Release by BJP National General Secretary Shri Tarun Chugh

Shame that Punjab Congress is defending Gandhi family after 1984: Chugh:

New Delhi, September 18 : Tarun Chugh, National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), strongly condemned the disruptive protests and acts of arson organized by the Congress in Delhi.

He said after November 1984 riots masterminded by the Congress and the assault on Sri Darbar Sahib it is so immoral for Congress to protest.

He stated, "Whenever the Gandhi family is criticized for their misdeeds, Congress supporters retaliate with violence and arson."

He further added, "Rahul Gandhi seems to forget that he is an Indian citizen. If he truly considers himself a well-wisher of the Sikh community, he should first apologize for the 1984 Sikh riots, during which thousands of Sikhs were massacred under Congress leadership."

Tarun Chugh further said, ‘Pannun, a Khalistani separatist leader, endorsed Rahul Gandhi’s statement in the US condemning the Sikh community. The Congress never came forward to distance itself from Pannun’s statement. This clearly shows that the Congress enjoys the support of separatist leaders, and they pat each other on the back.’ Chugh insisted that the Congress leadership clarify their stand on whether the Congress has connections with separatists

Questioning Pratap Singh Bajwa's remarks, Chugh said, "Let me remind Bajwa of Congress’s role in the 1984 riots, where leaders like Sajjan Kumar, Kamal Nath, and Jagdish Tytler played crucial roles in orchestrating the violence that devastated the Sikh community." Chugh also demanded an explanation from Bajwa and Congress leaders about their party's continued association with these individuals responsible for the anti-Sikh massacres, despite their involvement in the heinous crimes of 1984.

Chugh further said, "Bajwa should visit the widows' colony of the 1984 riot victims and witness how those families have suffered ever since Congress orchestrated that massacre." He added, "Instead of apologizing, Congress leaders continue to incite violence through protests. This will only prove their divisive politics, which will no longer work."

Reiterating the BJP's firm stance against violent protests, Chugh called on the opposition to engage in constructive dialogue rather than resorting to baseless accusations and destructive behavior. He warned, "Law enforcement agencies will take necessary action against those inciting violence and disturbing public order."

Chugh also expressed deep concern over Bajwa’s personal attacks on Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu , saying, "It is troubling that Bajwa, the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly, would resort to such baseless personal attacks instead of addressing the real issues. This shows a lack of respect for the democratic process, especially from someone who should be focused on the welfare of Punjab and addressing the pressing issues facing the state in the Assembly."

He further criticized saying these remarks as insensitive. "Instead of fostering meaningful dialogue, Bajwa has chosen to make unfounded accusations. The BJP is committed to maintaining the dignity of public discourse and expects the opposition to do the same. We urge Mr. Bajwa to focus on policy discussions and the welfare of the people, rather than indulging in personal vendettas."

Chugh also called on Congress leadership to take responsibility for the actions of their members and refrain from making divisive statements that serve only to polarize and destabilize the nation. "The BJP is steadfast in its commitment to democracy and will continue to promote constructive political discourse," he affirmed.
