About Amit Shah

Amit Shah was born to Smt. Kusumben and Shri Anilchandra Shah, an affluent Gujarati family in the year 1964 in Mumbai. He lived and studied in his paternal village Mansa, Gujarat until the age of 16, when upon completion of his school education, his family shifted to Ahmedabad. As a young boy he was always inspired by the stories of the great patriots of the nation and dreamt of working for the progress of the motherland. He was especially inspired and influenced by the nationalist spirit and vision of Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) and became its active member in Ahmedabad. This was one act that changed his life forever and set him on a momentous journey towards the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

1964

Shri Amit Shah was born in 1964 in Mumbai, in the prosperous Gujarati family of Mrs. Kusumben and Mr. Anilchandra Shah. Up to the age of sixteen years, he stayed in his ancestral village of Mansa in Gujarat and got his schooling there itself. After completing his schooling, his family moved to Ahmedabad. In his childhood, he used to get inspired by the biographies of the great nationalists, owing to this inspiration, he also dreamed of serving the Motherland and contributing to the progress of the nation.

Got associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and became the worker of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad

1980

In 1980, at the age of 16 years, being inspired by the ideologies of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) he became the volunteer of the Sangh and after becoming the worker of its students wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) he actively participated in several organizational activities.

It was evidence of the efficacy and activism of Mr. Amit Shah that after two years, in 1982 he was made the Joint Secretary of the Gujarat unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

Joined the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM)

1987

In 1987, Mr. Amit Shah joined Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and started his political career. Shri Amit Shah played an active role in various activities of Yuva Morcha.

Secretary, BJP, Ahmedabad City, Gujarat

1989

Shri Amit Shah was made the secretary of the BJP Ahmedabad city in 1989. He successfully performed the responsibility of the publicity of Shri Ram Janm Bhoomi movement and the Ekta Yatra. In the meantime, Amit Bhai’s long lasting contact with Mr. LK Advani happened when Mr. Advani contested election from the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. From the first time to 2009, Amit Bhai continuously successfully shouldered the responsibility of an election coordinator of Shri Advani.

President, Gujarat State Finance Corporation

1995

Shri Amitbhai Shah became Chairman of Gujarat State Finance Corporation in 1995. During his term, the corporation not only came out of the deficit, but its profits increased by 214 percent. Under the chairmanship of Mr. Amit Shah, for the first time in the corporation, the lease purchase method, working capital loan and truck loan were introduced.

National Treasurer- Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM)

Due to the political activism and efficiency of Shri Amit Shah, he was appointed National Treasurer of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in 1997.

In 1997, Shri Amit Shah was nominated for the first time as a BJP candidate from BJP's Sarkhej Legislative Assembly and won with a large number of votes. The popularity of Amit Bhai in the assembly constituency can be adjudged with the fact that his victory margin went on increasing in every next elections.

Due to the organizational efficiency of Shri Amit Shah, he was appointed Secretary of the Gujarat unit of Bharatiya Janta Party in the year 1998.

Just after one year, Shri Amit Shah was entrusted with the responsibility of Vice-President of the Gujarat unit of Bharatiya Janata Party in 1999.

Chairman, Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank

2000

At an age of only 36 years, Shri Amit bhai became the young Chairman of the Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank. In a short span of one year, Amit bhai not only recovered the loss of 20.28 crore rupees but made the bank attain a profit of 6.60 crore rupees and distributed a dividend of 10 percent, as well

In 2001, Shri Amit Shah was appointed as the National Coordinator of the Cooperative Wing of Bharatiya Janta Party and Amit bhai praised so much during his tenure that some people even gave him the title of the Grandfather of the Cooperative Movement

Shri Amit Shah was sworn in as a minister for the first time in 2002 and as the minister Amit bhai was handed over the responsibility of some important departments like Home, Traffic, Prohibition, Parliamentary Affairs, Law and Excise.

President, Gujarat Chess Association

2006

Shri Amit Shah became the President of “Gujarat Chess Association” in 2006 and it was during his period only the national competition of chess “National B” was organized in Gujarat.

2009

In 2009, Shri Amit bhai Shah was appointed as the President of the Ahmedabad Central Board of Cricket Association and the Vice-President of Gujarat State Cricket Association.

Fake Encounter Case

2010

Owing to the political malevolence, Amit Shah was sent to jail in 2010 in a fake encounter case. In 2015, in a special court of the CBI Amit bhai was released in this fake encounter case by stating that “all these actions were politically motivated.”

2013

Recognizing the efficacy of Amit Bhai, the BJP's national leadership made him the National General Secretary before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and the in-charge of Uttar Pradesh that had 80 MPs. BJP won 73 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh

In 2014, after Shri Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India. Mr. Amit Shah was appointed the President of "Gujarat State Cricket Association". With his efforts GCA's "Motera Cricket Stadium" is rapidly growing to be in the category of the world's most modern stadiums.

Acknowledging Shri Amit Shah’s capability and commitment towards the party's ideology, the senior party leaders appointed him as the BJP's National President in July 2014. Just 49 year old Amit Shah became the youngest President of the party.

Took charge as the Union Home Minister. On 1st June 2019, Shri Amit Shah took charge as the Home Minister in the PM Shri Narendra Modi-led central govt. He is the 35th Home Minister of the country.

Took oath as Member of Parliament Lok Sabha (17 June 2019)

Took oath as a member of the Loksabha. On 17th June 2019, Shri Amit Shah took oath as a member of the Loksabha. In the General election of 2019, he won with a huge margin of 5,57,014 (70% vote share) from the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency of Gujarat.

Assume Charge as Minister of Cooperation

Took oath as the Union Minister of Cooperation. PM Modi took an unprecedented decision to create the Ministry of Cooperation with the objective of 'Sahkar se Samridhi' and gave Shri Amit Shah the additional charge of it. Thus, Hon'ble Shri Amit Shah became the first Union Minister of Cooperation of the country.
