Salient points of interaction of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi with Kisan Morcha karyakartas of BJP Karnataka

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Wednesday interacted with the members of Karnataka’s BJP Kisan Morcha through the Namo App via video bridge from his residence.

Highlighting the BJP government’s commitment towards the welfare of farmers and agriculture, Shri Narendra Modi said: “We want to develop villages more powerful and capable. We are working towards solving the problem of each and every farmer. “

Interacting with the members of Karnataka’s Kisan Morcha, Prime Minister said in Karnataka farmers are considered as "Yogis".  BJP is dedicated for agriculture and farmers’ welfare. He said that the initiatives taken by the BJP can double the earnings of farmers by 2022. This is possible and it is important that farmers are made aware about it. All members of Kisan Morcha have played important role in transformation of agricultural sector as they play the role of bridge between the government and the farmers.

Citing the negative approach and incapability of Karnataka’s Congress government to transform the lives of farmers, Shri Modi said that they have showed negligence in proper implementation of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojana and help the farmers during drought.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the BJP is constantly working towards the better co-ordination between farmers and government to implement Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay’s  to fulfil that resolution of “Har Hath ko kam aur har khet ko pani”. BJP government has given agricultural loan to farmers worth Rs 11 lakh crore. Over 12.5 crore farmers in the entire country and 1 crore farmers in Karnataka have been provided soil health cards. Today the situation is such that farmers are getting good quality seeds and along with that initiatives to solve the problems of fertilisers have been taken. To ensure that farmers do not suffer problems of fertilisers, government has done the 100 % neem coating of urea to avert its diversion , also the new fertiliser policy has been prepared and not just that but also the prices of NPK  fertilisers have been reduced by our government nearly after 30 years.

Commenting on the irrigation facilities improved by the current government, Shri Modi said that today nearly 100 irrigation projects have been completed and 5 major irrigation projects worth Rs 4,000 crore is being worked upon. Over 24 lakh hectares land has been brought under the micro irrigation facilities while work for bringing another 4 lakh hectares land under the micro irrigation is being done.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that to ensure that farmers get proper prices for their crops, a lot of work is being done to reform agriculture marketing. Also, work is being done to connect small mandis of villages with wholesale and global markets so that farmers get god prices of their produce. He said: “We have already started the work of upgrading the infrastructure of 22,000 rural local markets, and it will be connected through APMC and e-NAM platform.

Discussing the historic decision taken towards increasing Minimum Support Price, Shri Modi said: “ This decision will be a boon in improvement of farmer’s living standard. Usually the purchase of crops is through NAFED. Stating that UPA had earmarked only Rs 1,500 crore as government guarantee for NAFED, Shri Modi said that  the Central Government was making strong arrangement for the purchase of crops from farmers, for which the government guarantee for NAFED has been increased to Rs 30,000 crore and will further be increased in future depending on the requirement. He said that combining for Kharif and Rabi, Karnataka alone has seen Rs 6,000 crore sale of chana, moong, urad and tur on their Support Price in Karnataka.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi also gave answers to the questions of the members of BJP Kisan Morcha whose salient points are as follows:

  • The insensitivity of Karnataka’s Congress government towards the farmers clearly visible.
  • Apart from ignoring the problems of farmers during drought, Siddaramaiah government also handed over the dried up lakes and ponds to the builders.

  • Instead of transforming the lives of farmers, Siddaramaiah government has only politicised the matters pertaining to farmers and played with their sentiments.

  • Government has made available 3 lakh solar pumps in just three years and nearly 2.5 crore rupees has been spent for it.
  • Looking at the earnings of farmers from the source of bamboo, government has changed the existing law. This will help the farmers earn more in terms of manufacturing incense sticks, furnitures and kites from bamboo.
