Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed public meetings in Karnataka’s Tumakuru, Gadag and Shivamogga, appealing the people of Karnataka to vote for the BJP and make it win with a thumping majority as the state need to move speedily on the path of Development.
Attacking directly on the Congress for its failure to develop Karnataka –especially in the regions of Tumakuru, Gadag and Shivamogga—Shri Narendra Modi said that it was the BJP Government at the centre which, despite several hurdles created by Siddaramaiah in Karnataka, took steps to solve the water related issues in the state. He said that it was the BJP Government at the centre that just in duration of 50 months resumed many such projects that were pending for 30-40 years. “We are busy in three types of works in Karnataka- Water Harvesting, Micro irrigation, and Sprinkler irrigation -- which has been extended to 24 lakh hectares,” said Shri Modi, addressing the huge crowd gathered to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shri Modi said that the BJP government has been working for the the interlinking of rivers to solve the problems of water in the region, and to fulfil the dream of former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee of solving the water related problems in Karnataka. Shri Modi also said that the BJP led Central Government wants to interlink the Hemavati and Netrawadi rivers so that eight districts near to Tumakur and thousands of hectares in the region will benefit of the water facility.
Highlighting that Tumakur region is one of the highest producers of Coconut, Shri Modi said that while the farmers cannot solve their own problems, the Congress Government is sleeping and ignoring their problems. However, in the meanwhile it is the BJP led Central Government that has worked for the increase of coconut exports.
Shri Modi also highlighted several other initiatives that has been taken by the BJP Government such as installation of mega food processing plans which would help the farmers to sell their products to the plant. “We started with installation of mega food processing plant worth Rs 150 crore through which 5,500-6,000 farmers got associated with it and further generated employment for 6,000 youth.” He said that to help the farmers for setting up food processing plants, we initiated the “Kisan Sampada Yojana”. We increased the budget from Rs 500 crore to Rs 1,500 for such initiatives.
Stating that Tumakur region was once known for production of electricity in the country which was later entirely ruined by Congress Government, Shri Modi said that the potential of region’s youth is also getting wasted as the scope of small scale industry was being killed by the Congress Government.
Shri Modi said that for development of Tumakuru into a smart city, Rs 834 crore out of Rs 14,000 crore has already been given to Karnataka Government by the Centre, but there is no change in the place. “Our Government has spent Rs 4,000 crore for the development of the region and employment of youth. To change the fortune of the students of engineering skills, our government established the helicopter-making unit,” said Shri Modi.
Shri Modi stated that he has initiated a campaign against Black Money and Corruption, under which several steps have been taken to stop swindling of money in the names of various schemes. “There was trend of swindling money in the name of widows who existed only on papers. However, we started the direct beneficiary transfer of money through the AADHAR system. We started transferring the money directly to the account of beneficiary after proper verification of the names. To everyone’s surprise several names which never actually existed got eliminated. “This way we saved swindling of Rs 80,000 crore.”
The Prime Minister also stated that it was the Congress which despite being in power for 60-70 years, failed to do anything for the welfare of farmers and instead remembers them only during the elections. “Since the time of Indira Gandhi, Congress talks about the poor only during the election and used it as a platform to win elections.”
Targeting Rahul Gandhi, Shri Modi said that despite not being aware of condition of the poor, he all of a sudden talks about loan waiver to farmers. “You (People of Karnataka) should ask him that who was ruling the country for the last 70 years. Why did not they pay heed to the problems of farmers of the Country at all?” Congress is responsible for the tough condition of the farmers due to their character, bad intention and bad policies. “Congress kept receiving everything as part of legacy and we are paying for their sin.”
Shri Modi asked the people why did not the Congress make irrigation facilities for the farmers of Tumkur. They (Congress) are not interested in making irrigation facilities for the farmers but rather interested in accumulating money for themselves and senior Congress leaders.

Shri Modi said that he always respected Devegowda ji. Today I want to expose the Congress, which is party of lies and attempting to save the Congress. All researches are saying that JD(S) will be in third position and if there is any party that can defeat the Congress, it is the BJP.
Talking about the pending Upper Bhadra project, Shri Modi said that the Congress and the JD(S) should answer where the project and the water that farmers were suppose to get? “I want to ask the Congress why did not the farmers get the water of Hemawati river and also what happened to the Yettinahole project which was to provide drinking water to the people. The project despite start could not give water to the people of Tumakur.”
Shri Modi also addressed a public rally in Gadag, where he mentioned that Central Government has taken slew of steps in the direction of Khadi and Handlom such as setting up of retail chain and changes in designs of khadi product and popularising it among public.
“We are working for making “Khadi for Nation, Khadi for fashion”. During the regime of Congress, Khadi and Handloom saw only a business of Rs 1,000 crore. However, during our times the business was worth Rs 2,500 crore which also ensured employment to poor and their upliftment.”
Shri Modi stated that Congress has put their everything on stake for the Karnataka elections and are trying to divide the state by conspiracy and spreading lies to ensure win. “Despite of being decimated from almost all the states in the last four years, Congress is the highly tensed now of losing Karnataka elections."
Shri Modi said that Congress considered Karnataka as tank of swindled money. It was worried that how will it survive if it loses Karnataka as well.
He also said that after the Karnataka elections, the party will be reduced to PPP Congress which meant Punjab, Puducherry and Parivar (family dynasty). He also attacked Ex- President of Congress Sonia Gandhi and said it was she who during 2007 Goa elections had said that the Congress is committed of not giving water of Mondovi River to Karnataka. “This should have been known by Karnataka chief minister and therefore should publicly say what is their plan for Mondovi River. It is the Congress which instead of solving the matter of Mondovi pushed the case to the tribunal and therefore hanged its faith in limbo,” said Shri Modi.
Shri Modi also informed the public that it is the BJP Government that has sanctioned Rs 6,000 crore to the textile industry which will help the cotton growers in Gadag to get connected to textile industry. By 2022 we will surely do two things—doubling income of farmers and giving houses to every person in India who do not have a house. However, the government here has created a hurdle in this initiative and has done the work of only 30,000 homes out of 1.5 lakh homes.”
At another public rally in Shivamogga, Shri Modi said that it is the Congress which protected the killers of over 24 BJP party workers.“It is the Congress which has given Karnataka the A, B and C of communalism groups of PFI, SIMI and many others.”
Shri Modi said that there is no difference between the “C of Corruption and Congress”. He said that the demonetisation still haunts the Congress leaders. He attacked certain leaders of Congress for using disrespectful language for Yeddyruppa.
Calling Rahul Gandhi and the Congress 'Naamdar', Shri Modi said that he can never understand the issues of 'Kaamdar' and the people of the country.
He said that it was the Congress which had filed an affidavit saying that Arecanut was harmful for health. “It is Shivamogga which produces one of the highest Arecanuts in the country. But the farmers had to face the problem because of it. Only when the farmers revolted with the help of Yeddyruppa, the UPA withdrew its plea against Arecanut”
Shri Modi reiterated how the BJP has fulfilled its promises of providing gas connections and nearly four crore families benefited from it, out of which 9 lakh beneficiaries were in Karnataka while 17,000 in Shivamogga. Railway works worth over Rs 30,000 crore was going on in Karnataka with the help of Central Government.
