Press Release

Former Delhi Cabinet Minister and AAP leader Shri Raaj Kumar Anand, AAP MLA Shri Kartar Singh Tanwar and former MLA Smt Veena Anand, along with other eminent Delhi leaders joined the Bharatiya Janata Party

Former Delhi Cabinet Minister and Aam Aadmi Party MLA Shri Raaj Kumar Anand, MLA Shri Kartar Singh Tanwar, former MLA Smt Veena Anand, Municipal Councilor Shri Umesh Singh Phogat, former Delhi Legislative Assembly Director and former AAP Himachal Pradesh in-charge Shri Ratnesh Gupta, along with co-incharge Shri Sachin Rai, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday. The event took place at the BJP's headquarters in New Delhi in the distinguished presence of BJP National General Secretary Shri Arun Singh, Delhi BJP President Shri Virendra Sachdeva and National Media Co-Head Dr. Sanjay Mayukh.

BJP National General Secretary Shri Arun Singh emphasized that Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has been honored with Russia's highest civilian award, for which the entire nation is congratulating him. Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, the NDA government has been formed for the third consecutive time. This marks the second instance post-independence and the first in the last 60 years where a government has been formed thrice under the leadership of a single leader. Over the past 40 years, the Congress has never reached the 240-seat mark. Even in the 2024 Lok Sabha election results, the entire INDI alliance failed to reach 240 seats collectively, whereas the BJP alone secured victory on 240 seats. Even when adding up all seats won by the Congress in the last three Lok Sabha elections, they still fall short of 240 seats. Despite their losses, Congress remains boastful in their victory and engages in negative politics. In the coming times, the people of the country will decisively defeat the Congress.

Shri Singh mentioned that in Delhi, AAP and Congress had contested together and claimed victory in all 7 seats. However, the result was such that under Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji's leadership, BJP won all seven Lok Sabha seats.

National General Secretary Shri Singh then welcomed Shri Anand into the Bharatiya Janata Party. Shri Singh conveyed that Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji's policies are compassionate towards the welfare of the poor and are uplifting people. Being inspired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s welfare policies, Shri Raaj Kumar Anand, Shri Kartar Singh Tanwar, Smt Veena Anand, Shri Umesh Singh Phogat, Shri Ratnesh Gupta and Shri Sachin Ray are joining the BJP.

Delhi BJP President Shri Virendra Sachdeva mentioned that Shri Raaj Kumar Anand has previously served as a cabinet minister in the Kejriwal’s government. In April, Shri Raaj Kumar Anand, alongside witnesses, stated that the Aam Aadmi Party is anti-Dalit, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal neglecting the concerns of Dalits. Frustrated by the party's failure to address the needs of his community, Shri Anand left the AAP. Shri Kartar Singh Tanwar, known for his integrity and success, has been a consistent MLA from Chhatarpur. Shri Tanwar also shared his discomfort, likening his experience in the AAP to working under a dictator. Due to the autocratic and arrogant behavior of the party's top leaders, all the leaders have decided to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Shri Raaj Anand expressed great pride upon joining the world's largest party and expressed gratitude towards Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Union Minister Shri Amit Shah and BJP National President and Union Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda. The primary goal for joining the BJP is to connect Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji's vision directly with the people of Delhi. Shri Anand emphasized that, during his tenure as a Delhi Minister, he focused on Dalit welfare. Whenever a wishlist was presented before Arvind Kejriwal, there was no interest shown in Dalit welfare or basic amenities like reservations. Significant funds from the Dalit welfare fund had been diverted in Delhi over the past 9 years under the AAP’s governance. AAP formed a government in Punjab by contesting elections in the name of Dalits. However, when it was time to elect 10 Rajya Sabha members, none of them were Dalits. Not a single Dalit holds the position of Chairman in Delhi's universities. Arvind Kejriwal and AAP have betrayed the trust and faith of Dalits.

Shri Kartar Singh Tanwar expressed great joy to be joining a party whose leadership is propelling the country forward. Shri Tanwar expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Union Minister Shri Amit Shah and BJP National President Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda for providing him the opportunity. He expressed deep concern regarding the current situation in Delhi, noting lack of development in the last two years.  Shri Tanwar criticized the AAP and stated that the party which came to eradicate corruption, had ironically committed the biggest corruption in Delhi.
