Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson Shri Prem Shukla & Shri Shehzad Poonawalla addressed a joint press conference at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi on Saturday. During the press conference, Shri Prem Shukla criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government for sheltering and nurturing terrorists in the state. Shri Shehzad Poonawalla criticized the AAP government for changing political intentions and neglecting the future of children studying in Delhi government schools.

Shri Prem Shukla stated that the manner in which under Mamata Banerjee's regime in Bengal, miscreants engaged in sandalwood smuggling were snatching the "mangalsutras" of women and the kind of protection Mamata Banerjee's government had afforded to the rapist who snatched the "mangalsutra," as soon as Shahjahan Sheikh was taken into CBI custody, who was presenting himself in a manner similar to a conqueror, during the time the police arrested him, the same Shahjahan Sheikh was found lamenting, the public witnessed it, and yesterday the reason for his lamentation, the NSG commandos raided alongside the CBI, and the types of weapons found there are indicative of the fact that the Bengal Police themselves were nurturing terrorists, as large-scale weapons were found there, seeing those weapons, it is clear that the work of nurturing terrorists was being done by the Bengal Police themselves.

BJP National spokesperson Shri Shukla stated that the manner in which the Mamata Banerjee government approaches the investigation by the CBI into the Sandeshkhali case is akin to how it approaches the Supreme Court. When it heads to the Supreme Court, immediately thereafter, the NSG finds caches of weapons, and yet the Bengal government appears to stand with terrorists. This clearly indicates how the TMC government, including Mamata Banerjee as Chief Minister, is sympathetic towards terrorists and rapists. While Mamata Banerjee readily supports corruption, as soon as the Enforcement Directorate and CBI conduct raids on corrupt officials, her sympathies vanish. Mamata Banerjee questions why raids are conducted at night on terrorist hideouts but stands in support of those who attack officers from the Enforcement Directorate. Mamata Banerjee's administration intervenes to support attackers against officers conducting raids. When crores of rupees are seized during CBI raids, Mamata Banerjee stands in support of corrupt officials instead of supporting the CBI. In her regime, under the slogan "Ma, Maati, Maanush," no one is safe except for criminals like Shahjahan. In Mamata's rule, neither "Maa," nor "Maati," nor "Maanush" are secure; instead, criminals, terrorists, and those attacking officers are protected.

Shri Shukla stated that as a Chief Minister, she is effectively handing over the reins of the police to such criminals. She has entrusted official weapons of the Bengal Police to the cohorts of Shahjahan Sheikh as per political directives. The Bengal that once showcased the valour of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, where Rabindranath Tagore's songs resonated in people's ears, and where Swami Vivekananda delivered messages to the world, now echoes with the sounds of bombs and explosives. Despite these alarming signs, Mamata Banerjee continues to support rapists, terrorists, and corrupt individuals. It is evident from the way the people of Bengal are casting their votes and the manner in which they are participating in the electoral process that on June 4, 2024, they will clearly express their mandate. The INDI Alliance must question itself about its stance on smaller issues and tweets and reflect upon its stance on the apathy of Mamata.

BJP National spokesperson Shri Shehzad Poonawal stated that in west bengal ‘Maa’ ‘Mati’ and ‘Manush’ is not secured and safe, one who is secured is the one Sheikh Shahjahan. In Delhi, neither children nor their future is secured. The one who is secured is the accused mastermind of the liquor scam. We had witnessed at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi some individuals arriving with the aim to transform politics. However, we have consistently observed certain individuals changing their faces and political affiliations. From 'Jhaadu' to 'Daaru', from 'Swaraj' to 'Sharaab', from 'Anna Hazare' to 'Lalu'. Those who initially stood against corruption under the banner of “INDIA Against Corruption” have now aligned with the INDI alliance of corruption. Those who once advocated for sending Sonia Gandhi, Lalu Yadav, Rahul Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav to jail are now allied with them and even claim they will govern from within jail. The Delhi High Court is also scrutinising this political conversion and posing challenging questions to the Delhi government.

Shri Poonawalla stated that, it's unfortunate for Delhi that someone is shamelessly running the government from Tihar Jail. Despite strong criticism from the court, some individuals continue to cling to power shamelessly. These people claim that Delhi has a world-class education model, but the High Court has also made sharp remarks about it. This exposes the political conversions of those who used to swear upon their children, promising to live in two-room houses and are now in Sheeshmahal. Shri Poonawalla stated that a PIL was filed in the Delhi High Court a few weeks ago, discussing the future of lakhs of children, and there are lakhs of children in Delhi who have to sit in tin classrooms, who do not even receive basic facilities like textbooks and writing materials in schools which falls under the Kejriwal government. And when the High Court questions the Delhi government about this PIL, they remain silent on it.

BJP National spokesperson Shri Poonawalla pointed out that in response to Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj's statement that they can't provide facilities to these children because the Delhi CM is in jail, the acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court made a remark on the Delhi government, that the government has prioritized personal ambitions and interests over national interest. In their pursuit of power, they are jeopardizing the future of the country. Their political interests have been given precedence over the interests of the children studying. Further, they stated, I am sorry to say that you have prioritized your political gain over the interests of the children. They lack basic facilities and are studying in tin sheds. Is it the court's responsibility to distribute uniforms and books? You only want power and cannot fulfill these needs because of that. Either the person instructing on your behalf lacks heart and vision, or they are purposefully ignoring it. Shri Poonawalla emphasized that these are all comments and observations of the court, and not a single word belongs to the BJP.

Shri Poonawalla stated that Justice Manmeet Arora has also pointed out the terrible condition of the so-called world-class schools by stating that schools are in a terrible condition, and the government should not publish ads about the world-class condition of the schools. Various teachers are teaching different subjects in the same classroom at the same time. And no leader’s children are studying in this school. In January 2024, the High Court said that 6 lakh children lacked textbooks and uniforms, with around 2 lakh 70 thousand children studying in Delhi government schools lacking such facilities. There are 48 schools operating in 24 buildings, and in these 24 buildings, around 1 lakh 30 thousand children are studying, with one school having around 3000 children. The Public Works Department (PWD) has not completed the final works in 358 classrooms for two years, and these classrooms are not being used. The court has inquired about the status of these cases and whether the government lacks finances. Shri Poonawalla stated that on one hand, it is being said that the Delhi government is in surplus, but when they had to allocate ₹16.5 crore to the PWD for those 358 classrooms, they lacked money.

BJP National spokesperson Shri Poonawalla remarked that on April 2023, the Delhi University Teachers Association had to resort to filing a PIL because their salaries were not being disbursed. Justice Prasad highlighted the complete disregard exhibited by the Delhi government in withholding salaries from the teachers, compelling them to repeatedly approach the courts, including the Supreme Court, for their basic salaries. The situation depicted a scenario where teachers had to seek legal recourse just to receive their rightful dues, indicating a systemic failure and an undue burden placed upon them.

Shri Poonawalla stated that in November 2022, several leaders from Delhi Pradesh, such as Shri Manoj Tiwari and other BJP leaders, raised concerns about corruption in classroom construction. They highlighted instances where exorbitant amounts, ranging from 25 to 30 lakhs, were allegedly syphoned off under the pretext of constructing classrooms, even misrepresenting toilets as classrooms. These actions prompted an inquiry, with the Lokayukta's report and subsequent High Court intervention shedding light on the matter. The situation raised questions not only about the purported "world-class education" agenda but also about the governance ethics, as the High Court questioned the extent to which the government was willing to operate within the bounds of legality, signalling deeper concerns about personal versus public interests within the administration.
