BJP National Spokespersons Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi, Smt Shazia Ilmi and Shri Shehzad Poonawalla addressed a press conference at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi on Monday. During the press conference, BJP spokespersons criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party’s involvement in the Delhi Liquor scam. They emphasized that the recent verdict by the Rouse Avenue court was a stern response not only to Kejriwal but also to other leaders in the INDI Alliance who support him. BJP spokespersons asserted that despite the court's strict stand on liquor scam and ongoing criticism, Arvind Kejriwal remained adamant and refused to resign from the CM post.
BJP National Spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi stated that yesterday, the INDI Alliance parties who were submerged in corruption came together in Ramlila Maidan to support ‘Swaghoshit Kattar Imandaar’ Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. However, the court has ordered Kejriwal's 15-day judicial custody based on factual evidence. Despite the opposition leader's efforts to defend him, Kejriwal is considered a serious accused by the court. Shri Trivedi urged the opposition to acknowledge these factual developments instead of making baseless statements.
Dr. Trivedi emphasized that individuals attempting to depict themselves as victims must recognize that today's court ruling is founded on concrete evidence inaccessible to both us and them. It's the court's legal framework that has determined the extension of this judicial custody for 15 days. Dr. Trivedi pointed out that at Ramlila Maidan, Arvind Kejriwal's mentor, Anna Hazare, pledged to abstain from politics during the India Against Corruption Movement. However, his disciple eventually ventured into politics and assumed the role of Chief Minister. Yesterday, during the Maha rally at Ramlila Maidan by the INDI Alliance, their leader was Lalu Prasad Yadav. Dr. Trivedi highlighted that unlike Lalu Prasad Yadav, who resigned after a conviction, Arvind Kejriwal did not step down from his position. Dr. Trivedi mentioned that according to some media reports, Arvind Kejriwal in court has stated that the main culprit of the scam Vijay Nair used to report to Delhi Minister Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj. He noted that while it might be easier to comprehend if only one individual were implicated in the scam, the involvement of the entire party makes it more complex.
Dr. Trivedi pointed out that the reason for Arvind Kejriwal skipping the ED summons is now evident. He suggested that the ministers who were accusing the Centre were possibly apprehensive about potential convictions in the liquor scam. Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi highlighted that the involvement of the Delhi government in the liquor scam has been gradually clarified. Following the court's decision, it will be interesting to observe whether Arvind Kejriwal will resign or employ any other political maneuver.
Smt Shazia Ilmi criticized Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal by saying ‘Itni khudgarji besabab nahin Kejriwal, kuch to hai jiski parda dari hai’ and she asked Kejriwal what is that he has been hiding for so long. The courts and the Enforcement Directorate are also saying that something is being hidden and support is not being received. Smt Shazia Ilmi stated that on August 16, 2011, Arvind Kejriwal went on a hunger strike for 13 days, totaling 320 hours. His life was at stake. Arvind Kejriwal used to wave flags of evidence and say ‘Niklo bahar makano se jung lado beimano se, pahle lade the goron se ab ladenge choro se’. Smt Ilmi stated that it is disheartening to see those same people who were called thieves, against whom charge sheets were filed gathered at Ramlila Maidan in support of Kejriwal.
Smt Ilmi mentioned that Arvind Kejriwal betrayed all of his party members including Yogendra Yadav, Mayank Gandhi, Prashant Bhusan and herself at first. Admiral Ramdas was disgracefully removed too. Mrs Sunita Kejriwal told the people that Kejriwal will disclose the evidence in the court. Smt Ilmi questioned that if there was such solid evidence, why hasn't it been presented yet? Manish Sisodia has been in jail for one year and two months, his close associates Sanjay Singh were also in jail, why wasn't this evidence presented for them? Smt Ilmi revealed that Kejriwal told the ED that Atishi Marlena and Saurabh Bharadwaj used to report to Vijay Nayar. Smt Shazia Ilmi criticized Kejriwal for betraying old as well as new companions.
Shri Shehzad Poonawalla remarked that the court's decision was a stern response to the alleged corruption and deceitful actions of the Aam Aadmi Party in the liquor scam. Shri Poonawala stated that in this Ramlila Maidan, the country has witnessed political conversion in a very short span of time, highlighting various shifts from ideologies from Swaraj to Sharab, from Anna to Lalu, from Jhadu to Daaru and from asking for resignation to not giving resignation.
Shri Poonawalla highlighted Arvind Kejriwal's previous stance advocating for leaders to resign in the face of corruption accusations. He pointed out Kejriwal's past demands for the resignations of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Lalu Yadav, among others. Now, however, Kejriwal finds himself in a similar situation but is resisting calls for his own resignation. Shri Poonawalla highlighted Kejriwal's transformation from advocating against corruption with "India Against Corruption" to justifying corruption, shifting from "Bhratsachar Hatao" to "Bhrashtachar Bachao."
Shri Shehzad Poonawalla pointed out that despite the AAP's claims presented before the court, they did not receive any leniency, raising the question of whether the court was engaging in vendetta politics. He highlighted that the AAP denied the existence of a money trail, but the Supreme Court, CBI court, and even Arvind Kejriwal's lawyer have acknowledged its presence. Shri Poonawalla asserted that there existed a "3G Ghotala" in Delhi. He outlined the three components: Firstly, the liquor scam. Secondly, the government's purported operation from jail and issuance of unauthorized orders; and Thirdly, the alleged backing of corrupt leaders to conceal their corruption. Shri Shehzad posed several questions to the Aam Aadmi Party, questioning why, if Arvind Kejriwal could effectively run the government from jail as Chief Minister, the ministerial posts of Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain were taken away. Shri Poonawalla also questioned whether the names of other leaders were being invoked to deflect blame. Additionally, he queried when AAP ministers would address fundamental questions regarding the liquor scam and why, if there was nothing awry with the new liquor policy, it was retracted. Shri Shehzad alleged that the Aam Admi Party's priorities were not 'Pathshala' or 'Bhojanshala' but 'Madhushala', likening their focus to that of drug baron Pablo Escobar, who ran operations from jail.
