A press conference was conducted at the Bharatiya Janata Party’s headquarters in New Delhi, by BJP National Spokesperson Shri Gaurav Bhatia on Wednesday. During the press conference Shri Bhatia condemned rampant lawlessness in West Bengal, accusing CM Mamata Banerjee of prioritizing politics over public welfare. He criticized her silence on crimes by TMC affiliates and potential sheltering of criminals. Calls for her resignation and assurance of BJP support for justice were emphasized.

Shri Gaurav Bhatia emphasized in the press conference the rampant lawlessness in West Bengal and the alarming crimes perpetrated against our daughters from Scheduled Tribes in the state. It is evident to every citizen that the rule of law is non-existent, overshadowed by the anarchic reign of Mamata Banerjee. When the perpetrators of these crimes are TMC affiliates, the Chief Minister remains silent. Mamata Banerjee fails to uphold the dignity of Hindu women in the state who are targeted by the goons of Shahjahan Sheikh, who roam freely in broad daylight, terrorizing and assaulting our daughters.

Shri Bhatia stated that, it is not an exaggeration to assert that West Bengal has devolved into a state governed by the rapists, of the rapists, for the rapists. The people are witnessing a regime akin to "Jungle Raj," which can aptly be termed "Mamata Raj." Here, the police force is ineffectual, bowing down to criminals, while women, especially those from Scheduled Tribes, are subjected to harassment and rape with impunity. TMC's thugs wield guns, exert control over women, inflicting torture and exploiting them, particularly targeting Hindu women for rape and abuse.

Shri Bhatia emphasized that despite being a woman herself, Mamata Banerjee ought to have stood in solidarity with oppressed women, yet she aligns herself with the rapist goons affiliated with the TMC. This shameful reality leaves citizens hanging their heads low, while Mamata Banerjee remains conspicuously silent. Furthermore, it is the Chief Minister's duty to ensure the proper functioning of constitutional institutions, a responsibility that seems to have been neglected amidst these distressing circumstances.

Shri Gaurav Bhatia highlighted the directives issued by the Kolkata High Court, characterizing them as a tight slap to Mamata Banerjee. Shri Bhatia stated that the High Court expressed deep disappointment upon reviewing numerous newspaper and electronic media reports. These reports are highlighted instances of alleged sexual assault at gunpoint against several women in Sandeshkhali North 24 Parganas by TMC goons. Additionally, it was reported in newspapers on February 9th and 10th, 2024, that tribal lands were forcefully being seized by the State Government, violating legal procedures and laws.

Shri Bhatia emphasized that, on the one hand, the central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is working to empower tribal communities and integrate them into the mainstream. On the other hand, in West Bengal, tribal lands are being forcibly seized. Additionally, cases of rape and assault against Hindu women have been reported. Gaurav Bhatia further emphasized the need to question Mamta Banerjee about the reasons behind such animosity towards the Hindu community and tribal community. He highlighted the irony that instead of being supported and strengthened by her government, they are being targeted by Mamta Banerjee's goons.

Shri Gaurav Bhatia added in the same matter, the High Court acknowledged that, despite considering all aspects, it is compelled to take Suo Moto Cognizance of the alleged incidents. Specifically, the court is focusing on the reported assaults of women in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas, and the transfer of tribal lands in violation of relevant laws. Additionally, notice has been issued to the state of West Bengal regarding the prevailing lawlessness. The Inspector General of Police, the DIG, and the District Magistrates of the respective districts have been requested to provide a response. The situation in West Bengal has deteriorated to the extent that the High Court had to take Suo Moto cognizance. Additionally, it's distressing to note that the National Commission for Women's team sent to West Bengal was obstructed from performing their duties. Instead of supporting and standing up for the dignity of assaulted women, Mamta Banerjee is accused of siding with TMC goons. Furthermore, complaints have been lodged against the victims and their families, potentially to intimidate them and suppress the matter.

Shri Gaurav Bhatia asserted that the BJP being a responsible party will fight for justice for every woman, regardless of their political affiliation, who believes in the Constitution. According to the Constitution of India, the state government must take strict action against any illegal activities against women, and those involved in heinous crimes should face severe punishment. The BJP pledges its support to this cause. However, when Party State President Shri Sukanta Majumdar raised this issue, he was detained, while raising concerns as to why such actions are taken by the State Government when the BJP is trying to provide assistance to the victims. Additionally, BJP workers are arrested when they visit victims and their families, though they are later granted bail by the court.

Shri Gaurav Bhatia remarked that it could be argued that if Mamata Banerjee has even a shred of shame left, she should step down from her position as she no longer has the right to hold the position of Chief Minister. This has evolved into a battle between the people of West Bengal and Mamata Banerjee. Instead of being a protector (rakshak), she has transformed into a predator (bhakshak). It is asserted that she must resign from her position. She should not underestimate the common people, as they will hold her accountable, which is certain. Mamata Banerjee must provide answers regarding the whereabouts of Shahjahan Sheikh's goons, who are allegedly involved in wrongdoing, including assaults on women. Shri Gaurav Bhatia leveled a grave accusation, implying that Mamata Banerjee could be sheltering Shahjahan Sheikh in her residence. A leader whose mindset is tainted and who prioritizes self-serving politics over public welfare lacks genuine concern for the people.

Shri Bhatia stated that a leader whose mindset becomes tainted, focusing solely on engaging in negative politics, is unlikely to prioritize the welfare of their constituents. The Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW) also tweeted about the troubling situation where instead of registering complaints from the women victims, the police have filed complaints against their relatives. What could be more lawless than this blatant inversion of justice? When the daughters and sisters of our country are not safe, and the Chief Minister, despite being a woman, supports a rapist. That's why, at this juncture, the Bharatiya Janata Party has endeavored to hold up a mirror to Mamata Banerjee, urging her to reflect on her actions. The public's trust in Mamata Banerjee has dwindled significantly. Therefore, it would be in the best interest if she considers resigning from her position. And those suffering women will attain justice. We are confident that the courts will uphold justice, and the BJP will steadfastly support all the affected families.
