Rajeev Chandrasekhar slams Rahul's "Mohabbat ki dukaan" remark, terms UPA period as "corruption ki dukaan" and as "Lost Decade"

New Delhi, 09 June 2023 Taking a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his "Mohabbat ki dukaan" (shop of love) remark, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and IT Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar today said it was ironical that the Gandhi scion goes trumpetting across the world when his own party's government was nothing but a "corruption ki dukaan" (shop of corruption).

Terming the Congress-led UPA regime as one tainted with scams, corruption and nepotism, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, "Their track record speaks for itself.  The economy was in the doldrums. Manufacturing sector was wrecked and investors were fleeing. BSNL had gone bankrupt. Their ten-year reign can be best described as Lost Decade. PM Narendra Modi ji had a tough task on hand when he took over. But he harnessed Technology to effect a turnaround and usher in unprecedented growth in the past nine years."

Recalling that Congress leader P Chidambaram had even mocked the India Stack initiatives, the Minister said the success of UPI and Direct Bank Transfers to beneficiaries has give the naysayers a befitting reply.

"Even a remote Nagaland village called Zunheboto got 100 percent DBTs. There was no leakage or corruption unlike in the UPA era."

Elaborating on the achievements of the Narendra Modi ji government, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar said pre-2014, India was the largest uncconnected nation in the world. "Today, with 850 million Internet users, we have become the largest connected country and are also the biggest consumer of data. Earlier,  every piece of telecom equipment was imported. But now we assemble and manufacture nearly 98 percent of the mobile phones but also export across the world. Pre-2014, India was more like a back office support to other countries,  but today we are in every piece of digital economy," he said at a press conference here.

Pointing out that Digital economy was only 3 to 3.5 per cent of the total GDP in 2015 , Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar said now it has increased to 10

per cent and is expected to rise to 20 percent by 2025-26.

Stating that India is today the most preeminent nation in the use of technology, the Minister said, "Even foreign countries are interested in adopting the India Stack."

Referring to India’s fastest growing startup and innovation ecosystem, the Minister said it has been a prominent source of employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for the young Indians.

He also spoke of how the Government is coming out with a comprehensive legal framework with the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, Digital India Act and National Data Governance Policy to ensure safety of the Internet users/digital negros.
