Union Finance Minister & Senior BJP Leader Smt Nirmala Sitharaman addressed a press conference at the party's headquarters on Friday. During the conference, Smt Nirmala Sitharaman criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's silence regarding the assault case involving Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal at the Chief Minister's residence. She strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party's anti-women policies.
Smt Sitharaman expressed disbelief and disapproval regarding Arvind Kejriwal’s silence about the assault on Swati Maliwal, the former chairperson of the Delhi Women's Commission and a Rajya Sabha MP from Aam Aadmi Party, from May 13
until now. In the presence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his close associate Bibhav Kumar assaulted a female Rajya Sabha MP and Arvind Kejriwal lacks confidence in addressing this issue. Arvind Kejriwal should come forward and apologize for this incident. On the very next day of the event, May 14, Rajya Sabha MP from Aam Aadmi Party, Sanjay Singh, stated that action would be taken against Bibhav Kumar, but no action has been taken yet.
Union Finance Minister Smt Sitharaman stated that Arvind Kejriwal has not made any statement regarding the assault on Swati Maliwal at the Chief Minister's residence, but he is seen leisurely spending time with the accused of that incident, Bibhav Kumar. During a press conference in Lucknow, when Arvind Kejriwal was questioned about this incident, he shamelessly turned his microphone away out of fear. Despite being a Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal ignored the questions from the press. The women of Delhi are questioning how Arvind Kejriwal can provide security to women when such misconduct occurred with the former chairperson of the Delhi Women's Commission and a female Rajya Sabha MP in the Chief Minister's residence.
Smt Sitaraman stated that Arvind Kejriwal is responsible for this whole situation. The founding members of the Aam Aadmi Party have already left the party, and today there is only one leader left in the party, Arvind Kejriwal, who is also anti-women. Only Arvind Kejriwal should be questioned on this issue. Former Aam Aadmi Party leader Smt Shazia Ilmi herself has been experienced with the principles of the Aam Aadmi Party. Smt. Shazia Ilmi had stated that there is no straightforward process to exit the Aam Aadmi Party. Instead, every male or female leader faces humiliation and physical assault by their security guards and private assistants, effectively forcing them out of the party.
Union Finance Minister Smt. Sitharaman pointed out that MLA Sharad Chauhan, the accused in the suicide case of Soni Mishra, is also associated with the Aam Aadmi Party. Somnath Bharti, who allegedly attacked his pregnant wife and instigated his dog to assault her, is contesting Lok Sabha elections on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket. Aam Aadmi Party did not provide any opportunity to a single female candidate for the Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. However, top INC leaders and INDI Alliance, including Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi would be voting for Somnath Bharti, an Aam Aadmi Party candidate who has been accused of domestic violence against his wife. Somnath Bharti was involved in abusing a journalist in 2018. Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan was accused of sexual harassment under the jurisdiction of the Jamia Nagar police station area in 2016.
Smt Sitharaman stated that leadership in AAP that is against women. These leaders are individuals who physically attack and humiliate women. Despite expectations, their leader turned out to be unbelievable. He turned out to be an individual, who, in his own residence, attacked his party’s MP, who worked for
women around the world in the Women's Commission. In Punjab, a YouTuber uploaded a video about some wrongdoings against women in front of a private university compound. Instead of taking action against those who should have been held responsible, action was taken against that YouTuber in Punjab.
Union Finance Minister Smt Sitharaman emphasized that when the Naari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam was passed in the new parliament, AAP MP Sanjay Singh referred to it as the “Mahila Bewakoof Banaao Bill”. Today, it's AAP itself that denigrates and insults women. AAP didn't offer any women the chance to contest in Delhi, while BJP has two, Smt Bansuri Swaraj and Smt Kamaljeet Sehrawat.
Smt Sitharaman highlighted that a founding member of AAP, Madhu Bhaduri, was known for drafting numerous resolutions for the party and actively contributing to its foreign policy. Smt Nirmala Sitharaman cited Madhu Bhaduri’s statement in which she said, "I have just one issue, i.e, humanity and women are humans, in this party, women are not considered humans. The party has a mentality of a khap panchayat. There is no space for women. If any other women leaders have any self respect they will quit too" Madhu Bhaduri realized early on that there was no room for women in AAP. Smt Sitharaman conveyed that her direct accusation is against Arvind Kejriwal, but he fails to provide any response.
Smt Sitharaman Smt. Sitharaman mentioned that Swati Maliwal is in so much pain that she can't even walk for a medical examination. Attacking the lower half of a woman's body reflects an extremely vile mindset. It's a deeply saddening issue. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should provide a clear explanation regarding the case and apologize.
