Bharatiya Janata Party Senior Leader and Former Union Minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad addressed a press conference at the party's central office, on Tuesday. During the conference, Shri Prasad criticized AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal for his repeated baseless allegations against various individuals. He stated that the Supreme Court rejected Arvind Kejriwal's application to quash the case, in which he had challenged the Gujarat High Court's decision. He also criticized Kejriwal for using defamatory language against the Hon’ble Prime Minister and Gujarat University, urging him to watch his words.

Shri Prasad launched a scathing attack on Arvind Kejriwal, remarking that while Kejriwal once claimed to bring change to the nation, he has now become a "Maafi Expert." This follows the Supreme Court's dismissal of Kejriwal's quashing application in a defamation case where he had challenged the Gujarat High Court's decision. The case was filed by Gujarat University after Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh made derogatory statements. They have questioned the educational qualifications of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. Kejriwal had previously demanded the Hon'ble Prime Minister to reveal his degree and even pushed his supporters to file RTIs, all of which were dismissed by the court.

Former Union Minister Shri Prasad stated that the defamation case came after the Gujarat University filed through its registrar. Despite multiple rejections at various judicial levels—from the magistrate to the session court, and later the Gujarat High Court—Kejriwal's plea was then rejected by the Supreme Court. Previously, Sanjay Singh's plea in the same case was also rejected, with the court reprimanding them for seeking an apology late in the process, stating that such a request should have been made earlier. They withdrew the plea and now the trial will proceed.

Shri Prasad further exposed Kejriwal’s repeated pattern of issuing apologies after making defamatory allegations, citing research that revealed he had done so at least 10 times. Notable instances include an apology to BJP’s IT Cell regarding a false tweet about Dhruv Rathee on February 26, 2024, and another to late Shri Arun Jaitley when Kejriwal falsely accused him of corruption during his tenure as DDA chairman, which he later retracted in court. While Arvind Kejriwal projects himself as a crusader against corruption, his consistent apologies after false claims reveal his true nature, and the public has now seen through this facade.

Former Union Minister Shri Prasad further highlighted several instances where Arvind Kejriwal had to apologize after making false allegations. For the third time, Kejriwal accused Punjab leader Bikram Singh Majithia of being involved in the drug trade, which led to a defamation case. Kejriwal ultimately apologized. The fourth instance involved BJP senior leader Shri Nitin Gadkari, whom Kejriwal called corrupt. When Shri Gadkari filed a defamation case, Kejriwal issued an apology, admitting his allegations were false. Arvind Kejriwal also apologized to Congress leader Kapil Sibal and his son in 2018 after having included Sibal's name in a 2013 list of corrupt politicians.

Shri Prasad mentioned that Arvind Kejriwal had accused BJP MP Shri Avtar Singh Bhadana of corruption on January 31, 2014, and later apologized. In 2015, after a farmer committed suicide during a farmers' protest, Kejriwal issued another apology. He also apologized for telecasting a secret meeting during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kejriwal has issued 10 apologies to date, how someone could make such false and defamatory statements, particularly about the country’s Hon’ble Prime Minister.

Former Union Minister Shri Prasad stated that Arvind Kejriwal's entire conduct is utterly irresponsible. Kejriwal has fought elections against the Hon’ble Prime Minister in Varanasi and lost, and even in Delhi's Lok Sabha elections, he faced defeat. The people of Delhi are also ready to dethrone the AAP. It is unfortunate that such language is being used at this level and to criticize the university in defamatory terms is unacceptable. The BJP strongly condemns these utterances.

Shri Prasad pointed out that Arvind Kejriwal’s friend Rahul Gandhi is also involved in such cases. Rahul Gandhi has faced many defamation cases for his irresponsible remarks and has even apologized in the Supreme Court. While there is a right to criticize and oppose, making baseless allegations that lack probity and propriety, which is defamatory, such actions must face consequences. The BJP remained silent because the matter was sub judice, but it was important to address this now. We hope that Arvind Kejriwal will watch his words going forward.
