Hpon’ble National President of Bharatiya Janata Party and Union Minister, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, addressed a public meeting in Barnai, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday. During the event, Shri Nadda sharply criticized the opposition for corruption, anti-development policies and support for terrorism, while highlighting the achievements of the Modi government. Shri Nadda emphasized that elections in Jammu and Kashmir are being conducted under the constitutional principle of ‘One Nation, One Flag, One Constitution, and One Leader’. During the event, J&K BJP Working President Shri Sat Sharma, District President Shri Omi Khajuria, BJP candidate from Poonch, Shri Sham Lal Sharma, among other leaders were present.
Shri Nadda stated that there is a deep and long standing relationship between Jammu and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Pandit Prem Nath Dogra, known as Sher-e-Duggar, was one of the first members of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh and also served as its national president. The unbreakable connection of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Jan Sangh, with Jammu & Kashmir is unforgettable. Shri Mookerjee resigned from his position as a Union Minister from the Nehru Cabinet and became the the President of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh. He advanced with the slogan “Ek Desh, Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan.” Hailing from West Bengal, Shri Syama Prasad Mookerjee came to Lakhanpur to surrender and sacrificed his life in Srinagar's jail to integrate Jammu & Kashmir as an inseparable part of India.
BJP National President Shri Nadda stated that in 2014, the people of India elected the Hon’ble Shri Narendra Modi Ji as Prime Minister, and in 2019, they once again entrusted him with the opportunity to serve the nation. The determination of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and the strategic vision of Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah led to the abrogation of Article 370, constitutionally integrating Jammu and Kashmir. In 1992, Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, alongside senior BJP leader Shri Murli Manohar Joshi, visited Kashmir. After hoisting the Tricolor in Srinagar on January 26, he announced about the abrogation of Article 370 at the parade ground.
Shri Nadda stated that Article 370 has been abolished, and elections in Jammu & Kashmir are now being conducted under the constitutional principle of “Ek Desh, Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan.” Shri Nadda mentioned that in 2010, a BJP executive meeting took place in Jammu and Kashmir, during which he was included in a committee alongside the then- BJP national president Shri Nitin Gadkari to address the region's issues. He recalled visiting various areas of the state and meeting people with the current Jammu and Kashmir BJP Working President Shri Sat Sharma, and was surprised to learn that the Pahadi, Tribal and Gujjar communities were not receiving reservations.
BJP National President Shri Nadda highlighted that the people of the Valmiki community in Jammu and Kashmir were limited to working only as sanitation employees. They were neither allowed to pursue education nor to secure government jobs. Those who came to India during the partition were deprived of the right to vote. While Congress leaders like Manmohan Singh rose to the position of Prime Minister after coming from Pakistan, and Hon'ble Shri Lal Krishna Advani became the Deputy Prime Minister, the residents of Jammu and Kashmir were not permitted to cast their votes in assembly elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bharatiya Janata Sangh stated that "Ek Desh Mein Do Nishan, Do Vidhan Aur Do Pradhan" cannot sustain. Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has fulfilled this commitment of the BJP. Today, as assembly elections are taking place in Jammu & Kashmir, the individuals from the Gujjar community are contesting from the tribal seats, and Pahadis are benefiting from reservation provisions. The children belonging to the Valmiki community are studying in medical colleges, and they are now also delighted that they have the opportunity to serve in government jobs while living in Jammu & Kashmir.
Shri Nadda remarked that three ‘Shahi’ families have together inflicted significant harm on Jammu and Kashmir, engaging in rampant corruption within the state. During their tenure, bank scandals emerged and they were involved in fraudulent activities in sports, including the Cricket Association. They mismanaged every aspect related to roads, electricity, and housing, and they have not ceased their dubious practices. The National Conference aims to bring Jammu and Kashmir back to the conditions of the 1990s and to re-establish trade with Pakistan across the Line of Control, even though such trade was essentially a cover for terrorism.
BJP National President Shri Nadda emphasized that under Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s leadership, significant measures have been taken to combat terrorism, leading to a reduction in terrorist incidents. Nowadays, if someone is identified as a terrorist, they are often dealt with swiftly within a week. In stark contrast, opposition parties are keen to embrace these terrorists and are discussing their release from prison.
Shri Nadda stated that opposition parties are selling the merchandise of hatred under the guise of a ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukaan’, they are working to divide people by caste and community. Congress and National Conference are backed by anti-national forces, receiving support from Pakistan. The defence minister of Pakistan has even endorsed them, claiming that Congress and the National Conference are promoting their agenda and seeking to restore Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP National President Shri Nadda mentioned that in 2014, the country was in a critical situation, burdened by rampant corruption, nepotism and scams. The government was ineffective, and the economy was struggling. During the Congress era, the Prime Minister had little real power. However, when the people of Jammu and Kashmir decided to elect Shri Narendra Modi Ji as Prime Minister, the nation has since experienced significant pride and development under his leadership. Corruption has been tackled, measures have been taken against corrupt individuals, and the politics of appeasement has been eliminated. It is because of the esteemed leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji that the country has progressed and the people have been benefited.
Shri Nadda noted that the condition of roads in the region was so poor that it once took one to one and a quarter hours to reach Jammu. However, the BJP-led central government has built high-quality roads in Jammu, including roads, bridges, and elevated routes. Nationwide, 150,000 kilometers of roads have been constructed, with 1,800 kilometers of national highways also developed in Jammu and Kashmir. This includes major projects like the Delhi-Katra Expressway, Jammu-Poonch Highway, Chenani Tunnel, Banihal Tunnel and Zojila Tunnel. Roads have been extended to every village in Jammu, resulting in the construction of 19,000 kilometers of roads that connect 2,300 villages.
BJP National President Shri Nadda highlighted that Former Defence Minister A.K. Antony, during the Congress governments, argued against constructing roads in border areas, claiming it would facilitate the enemies. However, under BJP governance, 6,800 kilometers of roads have been built in these regions. Additionally, in 2023 alone, the Border Roads Organization has completed 443 kilometers of border roads. Efforts are also underway to connect Srinagar by rail, and Vande Bharat trains are now operating to Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra. If anyone has genuinely realized the vision of connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari, it is Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. In the near future, a reliable transportation system, such as railways, will also be launched to link Kashmir with Kanyakumari.
Shri Nadda stated that the BJP-led central government has successfully completed the construction of the largest railway bridge over the Chenab, a project originally approved by the late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji. Congress and the National Conference attempted to obstruct this project multiple times, but today, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Asia's largest bridge stands proudly.
BJP National President Shri Nadda highlighted that the BJP government has established IIM, AIIMS and IIT in Jammu and Kashmir and has built 12 medical colleges. Previously, the state had only 500 seats across 500 medical colleges, but that number has now increased to 2,000. While the UPA government hesitated to advance the Shahpur-Kandi project due to concerns about Pakistan, the Modi government is ensuring its completion resulting in water reaching every household in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, the Modi government has approved several hydro projects in the state, which will provide electricity to homes and create job opportunities for the youth.
Shri Nadda stated that in 2014, India's economy was ranked 11th in the world, but the Modi government has successfully elevated it to the 5th position. After the Covid pandemic, the economies of prosperous nations stumbled, yet under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, India's economy has continued to shine as a bright spot. In the third term of the Modi government, India is poised to become the world's third-largest economy. Currently, India ranks second in steel production and third in the automobile sector globally.
BJP National President Shri Nadda emphasized that Congress leaders argue that there is inflation in the country, but if people lack money, how are they able to buy cars and motorcycles? The economy can only thrive when people have money. A decade ago, all mobile phones were manufactured in China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea, but now, 97% of mobile phones are produced in India. In the pharmaceutical sector, India has become a global dispensary, creating some of the best and most effective medicines. There was a time when even idols of Bhagwan Ganesh had to be imported from China, but today, India has made significant strides in the toy industry and is exporting toys worldwide. Under the Modi government, 25 crore people have been lifted above the poverty line, and extreme poverty has fallen to less than 1%. The government is supplying free grains to 80 crore individuals nationwide, including 72 lakh in Jammu and Kashmir. Through the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, 11 crore farmers across the country and 853,000 farmers in Jammu and Kashmir receive ₹6,000 annually directly into their accounts.
Shri Nadda stated that after the BJP government is formed in the state, the pension for widows and senior citizens will be increased from ₹1,000 to ₹3,000. Additionally, the oldest woman in each family will receive ₹18,000 annually. Beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana will be given two free gas cylinders, and the farmer welfare fund will be raised from ₹6,000 to ₹10,000. Furthermore, farmers will receive a 50% subsidy on agricultural equipment and the Pandit Prem Nath Dogra Employment Scheme will create job opportunities for 500,000 people. Students will receive tablets for their studies, and landless individuals will be given 5 marlas of land free of charge under the Atal Awas Yojana. Financial support will be provided for the reconstruction and revival of temples in the state. The ban on mining in Neelam will be lifted, promoting trade and creating job opportunities for the locals. Following the formation of the BJP government, a riverfront will be developed along the Tawi River. The success of the Bharatiya Janata Party is directly tied to the welfare of Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP National President Shri Nadda urged the public to vote for the ‘lotus’ symbol and support BJP candidate Shri Sham Lal Sharma. He remarked that the Bharatiya Janata Party has journeyed from darkness to light. When the party faced obstacles, it was the people who illuminated the path, enabling the development of Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed his belief that the people would once again trust the BJP, guiding Jammu and Kashmir toward new avenues of progress.
