BJP’s central team to probe police atrocity in Escort farm, Uttaranchal.
Shri Rajnath Singh, President BJP, has constituted a seven member team headed by Shri Navjot Singh Sidhhu, MP, to probe into the police brutalities at the Escort Farm, Kashipur, Uttaranchal. Other members of the team are S/Shri. B.C.Khanduri, Bachi Singh Rawat, Rajendra Singh Bhandari, Vijay Sankla, Harjit Singh Grewal and Bibi Gurcharan Kaur.
The Congress Government headed by Shri N.D.Tiwari lost a case in Supreme Court concerning the land measuring about 1126 acres, which was under cultivation by hundreds of families for over fifty years. Most of the families were farmers from undivided Punjab settled by the then Union government after the Partition.
On the New Year Day the Tiwari government, after losing a badly contested Supreme Court case, ordered the forcible eviction of the farmers. On January 02, the police swooped down on the colony with bulldozers and tractors, razed 35 buildings, destroyed thousands of dwellings and ran tractors over standing crop and ruined it. Thousands of homeless farmers are now living in the open in freezing cold.
Hundreds of farmers including women and children were hurt in the police lathi charge carried out on the peaceful protest march led by Harbajan Singh Cheema and Arvind Pandey, both BJP MLAs. The BJP state leadership convened an emergency meeting and condemned the government’s action. BJP State unit president Shri Bhagat Singh Koshiari and Leader of Opposition Shri Matbar Singh Khadari visited the area and assured the farmers of total support. The local unit of the party has made makeshift arrangements to provide relief to the affected families.
The BJP organized a protest rally in Ramlila Ground in Kashipur which was addressed by former CM Shri Nityanand Swamy, (BJP), Shri Sukhdev Singh Dindsa, (Akali Dal), and other BJP leaders.
