Statement issued by Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, MP & former President, Bharatiya Janata Party on the Address by the President of India to Parliament
The Presidential Address to Parliament is totally disappointing, directionless and uninspiring. It did not address the challenges faced by the country – be it massive corruption, unabated price rise, agricultural crisis, farmers’ suicides, growing unemployment etc. The Government could not give any roadmap to tackle any of these issues.
Though the Presidential Address mentioned about serious economic crisis, it did not spell out the steps proposed to be taken by the government to address the serious situation of fiscal deficit touching 5.5% and GDP coming down to 5%. The Government seems to be clueless and that was why the Presidential address was completely uninspiring.
What happened during the Presidential Address in the Central Hall is very sad and the ruling party has to take the responsibility for the same. With the ruling party alliance partners holding placards, raising slogans and protesting against the President’s Address this was something unprecedented and it was a confirmation of the opposition’s charge that all is not well within the UPA and the Congress party does not know how to run a coalition and how to run the country.
