Bharatiya Janata Party hails the results of local body elections in Gujarat wherein people of Gujarat have once again reposed total in BJP and have rejected Congress.
BJP has won 16 Zilla Parishads out of 23 for which elections were held. Congress won only 6 ZPs. Earlier Congress was ruling in 21 ZPs. The same is the story for Municipal Elections. 49 Municipalities went for polls. Out this 38 municipalities saw BJP as the winner. Congress could retain only 11 Municipalities with them. Earlier Congress was ruling in as many as 42 Municipalities, which went to polls. In both these elections BJP has secured nearly 3/4 majority.
In Panchayat Samiti elections also BJP won 2/3 Panchayats which had polls. The elections were held for 209 Panchayat Samiti. BJP won 135 Panchayat Samitis with clear majority. Congress had to satisfy itself with victory in 71 Panchayat Samitis only. Earlier BJP's victory was not even in double digit.
Many Congress stalwarts have been defeated. BJP has won Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti and Municipality in Porbandar district from where Congress leader of opposition Sh. Mudwadia is elected in Vidhan Sabha. BJP has made substantial gains in Saurashtra and across the state.
After Ahmadabad corporation elections in which BJP got 3/4 majority, Congress had accused BJP of tampering with electronic voting machine. But ZP/Panchayat Samiti/Municipality elections were held with traditional ballot method. BJP's win in these elections proves that Congress was raising accusing finger only out of desperation.
