Statement of the Prime Minister Sh. Manmohan Singh, that Volcker Report is unsubstantiated and there is no proof against the Congress or Mr. Natwar Singh is outrageous. We condemn his effort to prejudge and influence the probe he ordered. The Prime Minister is defending the indefensible. He has become the prosecutor, the defender and the judge by himself. This shows that everyday he succumbs to new pressure and flounders while saving his party and his colleague. The repeated defence of corruption by the Prime Minister makes mockery of any probe, which is yet to start. BJP feels that nobody should jeopardize the probe in such a brazen way.
Larger issue involved is the national interest. If the Prime Minister cannot withstand the pressure from his party and Mr. Natwar Singh, how he will be able to withstand the pressure of world powers to protect the national interests. The handling of the Volcker issue has exposed the weakness of the Govt., and the nation has to seriously think about its effects.
BJP's fear about the ability of the two probes to obtain official documents from various countries is true. The statement from UN spokesperson, Farhan Haq, warrants such fears. She said categorically that UN and Volcker Committee was unlikely to share any information to any private association or a political party about the findings of the report. The two committees appointed to probe the scandal will become ineffective unless the due process of law is followed. The only course for getting the relevant documents from all over the world, is to file a criminal complaint against the accused and move forward under the provision of 166A&B of CRPC. Then only process of letter rogatory is possible. There is no shortcut to find the truth. And we are sure that despite Congress and Govt.'s efforts to cover up the scandal the truth will emerge.
In one breath the Prime Minister acts though half-heartedly against Natwar Singh, but refuses to act against the Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. She also occupies a Govt. post. Govt. cannot have two different yardsticks for two persons. The Congress party's name appears in the Volcker Report as that of Sh. Natwar Singh. And as such Mrs. Gandhi should also be removed from Govt. post.
This is the third revelation as how Congress foreign policy is influenced through bribing. First-the CIA funding as revealed by Sh. Moynihan, Second-KGB funding and Third-Oil for Food Scam. We are raising the issue again and again to alert the nation that National interests and independent foreign policy is at stake.
