Press Release
On Navin Chawla and the Election Commission :

    *
It is now clear that the UPA government is committed to destroy the autonomy and independence of the Election Commission . The following facts make it clear :-
A politically partisan civil servant Shri Navin Chawla was appointed as a member of the Election Commission.
    *
The Congress party and its allies such as the RJD and the CPI(M) have launched a political war on the Election Commission.
    *
When allegation of Shri Navin Chawla receiving MPLAD funds from Congress (I) MP’s surfaced, the Congress sought to justify this partisan character of Shri Navin Chawla.
    *
When 206 MPs submitted a memorandum to the President of India and the President has referred it to the Prime Minister for further action, the Prime Minister is now trying to create road blocks in a constitutional process under Article 324(5) of the constitution .The proviso to Article 324(5) of the constitution clearly states that, "Provided further that any other Election Commissioner or a Regional Commissioner shall not be removed from office except on the recommendations of the Chief Election Commissioner."

The constitution thus vests the power to recommend the removal of the Election Commissioner solely and exclusively with the CEC. The Prime Minister and the Attorney General are usurpers in the matter of giving a clean chit or exonerating Shri Navin Chawla.

The Prime Minister is guilty of appointing a partisan person as a member of the Election Commission. He is guilty of creating an extra constitution road blocks in a constitutional process of removing Shri Navin Chawla. The Prime Minister is attempting to prevent the CEC from making a recommendation on merits .The CEC’s recommendation has to be on the question 'Whether Shri Navin Chawla's politically partisan past is effecting and impinging on his present function as an Election Commissioner'.

The BJP demands that the Prime Minister should forthwith transmit the petition against Shri Chawla to the CEC for his recommendation.

On Natwar Singh and Volcker :

The Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh was the first person to give a clean chit to Sh Natwar Singh when the Volcker disclosures were made .
The Volcker disclosures are now proving to be correct.
What were the disclosures?

    *
Natwar Singh and the Congress party were the beneficiaries of the UN oil – for –food programme for Iraq.
    *
Fraternal links between Congress party and Iraq’s Bath party were cited as the basis for this benefit confirmed on Natwar Singh and the Congress party.
    *
The oil against these coupons was picked up and traded by Masefield A.G.
    *
The kick backs for the Saddam Hussain regime were deposited with the bank of Jordan by Andleep Saigal’s Hamadan Exports. Sh Andleep Saigal is a close family friend and a relative of Natwar Singh’s family.
    *
Amounts have also been deposited in Foreign accounts of family member of Shri Arvind Khanna a Congress (I) MLA from Punjab and again both a family friend and a relative of Shri Natwar Singh.

Disclosures made by the NDTV now reveal that Shri Natwar Singh had written these letters to Shri Tariq Aziz then the Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq introducing Shri Andleep Saigal and pushing for the oil deed. Has the country been misled by the Government and the Congress Party ?

Why is a case not being registered by the CBI against Shri Natwar Singh and the Congress party under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act? It is only the registration of this case which will enable the CBI to send a letter of request to the Swiss authorities to unearth the money trail and discover the eventual beneficiaries.

The BJP demands the Government come out with a statement confirming or denying the factum of these three letters and making their contents public. The consequence of this disclosure is that there is no alternative to the registration of a criminal case against the accused.
