Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson Shri Shehzad Poonawalla addressed Media regarding Increasing Atrocities Against Women in West Bengal

BJP National Spokesperson Shri Shehzad Poonawalla addressed the Media at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, on Friday. Shri Poonawalla criticized Rahul Gandhi for politicizing incidents while ignoring the anti-women and oppressive events taking place in states governed by the INDI Alliance. He questioned whether Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra will break their silence in defence of the Constitution and the women of West Bengal, or if they will continue to remain silent regarding abuses towards women while adhering to coalition obligations.

Shri Poonawalla presented a video and mentioned that this video of a Talibani court is from Domjur in Howrah, the same area where the West Bengal state secretariat is located and where Mamata Banerjee often visits. In Sandeshkhali, Chopra, North Dinajpur, JCB Tajmul was beating a woman and an individual, in a Talibani way. Following this, in Cooch Behar, a Muslim woman was stripped naked and in Ariadaha, another woman was similarly beaten. Images have emerged from Kolkata and later Howrah showing a woman being brutally beaten and then having her hair cut with sharp scissors. This act was intended not just to target that woman, but to send a Talibani message to all women in West Bengal. The individuals involved in this act included Abul, Mehboobulla, Arbaaz and five or six others. Such Sharia-inspired Talibani actions are increasingly visible in West Bengal and have become routine occurrences.

BJP National Spokesperson Shri Poonawalla stated that kangaroo courts or Sharia-inspired Taliban courts are functioning in West Bengal, where women are mistreated. These Talibani courts, operating under Sharia law, have the full support of the Trinamool Congress and Mamata Didi’s government, which backs those who perpetrate such abuses against women. When the Talibani incident occurred in Chopra, North Dinajpur, a TMC legislator dismissed it as a normal occurrence, claiming that such things happen in Muslim countries and labeling the woman as characterless. No stringent action has been taken against this TMC leader. In Sandeshkhali, Hindu women were raped and to shield the main accused, Shahjahan, the West Bengal police and government took every possible measure. Even the Supreme Court had to comment that the entire West Bengal government seemed determined to protect Shahjahan.

Shri Poonawalla stated that TMC MP Mahua Moitra had made derogatory tweets about the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women and no action was taken against her. Thus, whether it’s Howrah, Cooch Behar, Sandeshkhali, or Chopra, these incidents clearly indicate that the government in West Bengal is not the 'Maa, Mati, Manush' government, but rather a TMC- ‘Talibani Mujhe Chahiye’ and ‘Tushtikaran Mujhe Chahiye’ government. Thus, these criminals issue Talibani verdicts and enforce them through Sharia-inspired courts that dispense Talibani justice. No action is taken against them and their connections are firmly linked to the Trinamool Congress government and its leaders.

BJP National Spokesperson Shri Poonawalla stated that a similar incident has occurred in Telangana. In Telangana, a woman was tied to an electric pole and beaten in broad daylight, simply for being poor. This incident, like those in West Bengal, was carried out in a Talibani manner. Wherever the INDI Alliance government is in power, all those criminals who carry out Talibani acts are given a free hand and women's rights are suppressed, leading to the perpetration of violence against women. Unfortunately, whether in West Bengal or Telangana, these incidents are met with a secular silence. Even those who promote slogans like “Ladki Hoon Laddsakti Hoon” have remained silent. Therefore, it is worth asking: What is Priyanka Vadra’s response to these incidents? Why hasn’t Rahul Gandhi made a statement yet? Will Rahul Gandhi visit the woman who has endured such abuse? The Congress party has been silent on the Chopra incident, the Sandeshkhali case, Swati Maliwal’s case and now, even after major incidents of violence against women in Howrah and Telangana, the Congress party remains quiet. Priyanka Vadra, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge should break their silence.

Shri Poonawalla stated that recently, the Supreme Court made a landmark decision on women's empowerment. The Congress UPA government had previously overturned a Supreme Court ruling by yielding to extremists and undermining women's rights. Now that the Supreme Court has ruled, Rahul Gandhi, who often praises the Constitution, has neither welcomed this decision nor condemned those in the AIMPLB who oppose it. Simply carrying the Constitution around is meaningless if you do not support its principles. If you truly respect the Constitution, then clarify whether the incident in West Bengal aligns with or contradicts its values. Rahul Gandhi has yet to comment on the Supreme Court’s decision and those opposing it are allies of the INDI Alliance. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra should address whether they will stand up for the Constitution and the women of West Bengal.
