Salient Points Of BJP National Spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi’s Press Conference regarding protests against Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal

After obstructing the investigation, protecting the accused and compromising evidence in the rape and murder case of a female doctor at Kolkata Medical College, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee now appears to be employing a new tactic to intimidate the protesting doctors

Pay close attention to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's words. According to the media, she has stated, "I do not want an FIR to be lodged. I do not want an FIR to be lodged so that careers are not ruined. There is no problem in getting passports and visas"

*********************

With the manipulation of words, Mamata Banerjee has directly threatened the doctors. In a way, she has questioned the career of doctors through the illusion of words

*********************

Mamata Banerjee's statement suggesting that elections should be held, reflects a troubling attitude from the West Bengal government. This perspective, which treats justice for the victim as a political issue rather than a matter of principle, is deeply concerning. It suggests a dangerous precedent where those in power might manipulate justice to their advantage

*********************

The way justice is being handled in West Bengal is a serious insult to the victim and a major blow to the Constitution. It reflects a lack of democracy, with the Constitution being disregarded. All parties in the INDI Alliance, including Congress, are implicated in protecting criminals

*********************

TMC government began with violence in 2021, which led to a reprimand from the Calcutta High Court. Mamata Banerjee's government has a documented record of starting with violence, as confirmed by the High Court

How many culprits have been hanged in rape cases by CM Mamata Banerjee's government? What is the conviction rate of the West Bengal government?

Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi addressed a press conference at the party’s headquarters on Wednesday. During the conference, Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi strongly criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her actions following the rape and brutal murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College. He accused her of threatening the protesting doctors, shielding the criminals instead of ensuring justice for the victim and violently attacking BJP karyakartas during the West Bengal bandh. The handling of justice in this case is not only a mockery but also a severe blow to the very essence of the Constitution. There is no democracy in West Bengal and the Constitution is being undermined. He also accused all parties within the INDI Alliance, including Congress, of being complicit in these actions.

Dr. Trivedi criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's TMC government in West Bengal, stating that the issues visible to the people of West Bengal are not being acknowledged by the administration. The state government has been mishandling the investigation into the rape and murder of a female doctor at Kolkata Medical College, including protecting the accused and destroying evidence. Dr. Trivedi also highlighted a new tactic by the Chief Minister which is intimidating doctors. Unlike previous strikes, leaders of the ruling party are now trying to keep businesses open during a bandh, after which the Chief Minister addresses the media.

BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi commented on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's statements, highlighting that, according to media reports, she has expressed a desire to avoid filing an FIR. She reportedly wants to prevent an FIR to avoid jeopardizing careers and encountering difficulties with passports and visas. It is unbelievable that the enlightened people of the country and West Bengal, known for their intellectualism for centuries, fail to understand the meaning, sentiment and expression of such statements.

Dr. Trivedi accused Mamata Banerjee of directly threatening doctors through her choice of words. Her verbal manipulation casts doubt on the doctors' careers. Similar to how the West Bengal government presents a facade that masks its true nature, Mamata Banerjee’s statements are misleading in both their apparent and underlying meanings. This discrepancy is evident to everyone. Dr. Trivedi also criticized Mamata Banerjee's statement during the press conference, where she suggested holding elections, calling it a reflection of the West Bengal government's frustration and distress.

BJP MP Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi conveyed to Mamata Banerjee that seeking justice for the victim is not an electoral issue. It is a matter of presenting evidence in a court of law and ensuring that the guilty are punished. Justice is not determined by elections. He emphasized that the belief that justice will be swayed by those in power is a very dangerous concept.

BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Sudhandhu Trivedi remarked that if the Constitution is under threat anywhere, it is in West Bengal. The state’s minister, Udayan Guha, has threatened to break the fingers of anyone who challenges the Chief Minister. Additionally, MP Arup Chakraborty warned that protesting doctors would face severe consequences. Dr. Trivedi also criticized the Chief Minister’s reluctance to file an FIR and her concern about damaging careers, suggesting that if their party were in power at the center, there would be physical reprisals, consequences, and ruined careers. This situation is clearly evident in West Bengal. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had previously declared that there was no democracy in West Bengal during his tenure as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s words now seem to be coming true.

Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi questioned whether Mamata Banerjee is the same leader who once led a major movement against rape and violence. He recalled how, during her time in the government of then-Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mamata Banerjee had herself shared stories of the violence inflicted upon her by the police of the then-communist government in West Bengal, to the extent that they believed she was dead. Dr. Trivedi challenged Mamata Banerjee, asking if her sense of compassion has diminished to such an extent that instead of ensuring justice and punishing the culprits, she is now trying to protect them. He further questioned, "Mamata ji, are you the same person who once fought against injustice? Whom are you trying to protect now?"

BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi criticized the West Bengal government’s handling of the rape and brutal murder case at Kolkata Medical College. From the very beginning, there were serious missteps: the principal involved was transferred to another college, the crime scene was not secured properly and vandalism occurred around the site. The case was not handed over to the CBI, and now, Mamata Banerjee's focus on capital punishment seems to be a diversion from these critical issues. The Supreme Court had criticized the West Bengal government for destroying and tampering with evidence, which has complicated the investigation.

Bharatiya Janata Party asked Mamata Banerjee's government how many culprits have been hanged in rape cases by CM Mamata Banerjee's government? What is the conviction rate of the West Bengal government?

Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi condemned the situation in West Bengal as not just an attack on justice for the victim, but a fundamental assault on the Constitution. He accused all parties in the INDI Alliance of being complicit, highlighting that Kapil Sibal, a Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh and a former Congress minister, is the lawyer for the Trinamool Congress government. This involvement indicates a broader effort within the INDI Alliance to shield the crime and the perpetrators.

Dr. Trivedi criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for accusing the BJP of inciting violence through its bandh call, while BJP karyakartas themselves were facing lathi charges and violence. Her government began its term with violence, which led to reprimands from the Calcutta High Court in 2021. Mamata Banerjee's administration has a "certified certificate" from the High Court for its violent practices.

BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating that the ongoing violence and unrest in the state reflect a broader issue under her leadership. He reminded the public that, unlike other states where election-related violence has diminished, West Bengal remains plagued by such violence both during and after elections. Dr. Trivedi expressed concerns that Mamata Banerjee might be forced to protect the perpetrators of violence due to their increased audacity, suggesting that managing these criminals may now be beyond her control.
