***************************************

Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha National President Shri Tejasvi Surya jointly addressed a press conference at the party's central office in New Delhi on Saturday, shedding light on MUDA scam.

Dr. Sambit Patra remarked that recently, during the budget session in Parliament and at the oath-taking ceremony, opposition leaders, especially from Congress and TMC, took an oath on the Constitution and made a significant fuss about it. Yet, in Bengal, the Constitution is being systematically undermined, with the INDI alliance government and its leaders blatantly disregarding it both in Bengal and Karnataka.

Dr. Patra noted that the Governor of Karnataka Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot approved the prosecution of the Karntaka CM Siddaramaiah. This follows the exposure of a scam related to land allotment by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Civil society intellectuals Shri T.J. Abraham, Shri Pradeep, and Shri Snehmai Krishna had submitted a petition to Governor Shri Gehlot, requesting that permission be granted to prosecute the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Dr. Sambit Patra pointed out that the Governor of Karnataka had asked for a response from the Siddaramaiah government, but the Congress administration was unable to provide a factual explanation. Disregarding the Congress government's explanation, the Governor of Karnataka concluded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's family was involved in a scam related to MUDA. Consequently, permission has been granted to pursue legal action against them. According to MUDA regulations, when land is acquired in a rural area, compensation is provided with a 50:50 ratio: land is allocated in an urban area, and 50% of the compensation is given as land in a developed area.

BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra stated that in 2004, Siddaramaiah's wife Parvathi had her brother purchase 3.16 acres of land in Keshari village. In 2005, the ownership of the land was transferred to Parvati Siddaramaiah but it was later discovered that this transfer was invalid as the land belonged to a Dalit. The issue came to light when the original owner of the land sought to reclaim it. During the investigation, it was revealed that MUDA had allocated 14 plots to Parvathi in an upscale area. The scam is evident as these 14 plots were provided at a value significantly higher than the compensation that should have been given. This discrepancy is currently estimated to amount to approximately  ₹ 3,000 to ₹4,000  crores, indicating a scam of this magnitude.

Dr. Sambit Patra noted that in the National Herald case, approximately ₹5,000 crores worth of land was embezzled, with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi currently out on bail. The Karnataka government appears to be adopting methods similar to those of the Gandhi family. Earlier, governors used to remain silent on such scams. During the UPA government, political compulsion prevented permission for such investigations. However, legal action is now underway against the current scam.

Dr. Patra further mentioned that there had been a scam involving the Maharishi Valmiki Development Corporation. Funds allocated for the development of the Scheduled Tribes community in the name of Maharishi Valmiki were allegedly used to purchase a Lamborghini car. Dr. Patra also referred to a statement made by Siddaramaiah on the floor of the assembly, where he reportedly acknowledged that, although not the full amount, some portion of the funds had indeed been transferred. A significant scandal had taken place in Karnataka and the entire country would attest to the fact that, under Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji's regime, those involved in corruption are not spared.

Shri Patra highlighted that all the doctors in the country were wearing black armbands and he too was wearing one as he is part of the doctor fraternity. He then emphasized that Mallikarjun Kharge visited Bengaluru, where people were raising slogans against the Governor. Kharge went to Bengaluru to protect those involved in scams, and would go to Kolkata as well? Priyanka Vadra has earlier stated, "Ladki Hoon Lad Sakti Hoon" and questioned whether Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi would go to Kolkata or if they would all head to Bengaluru to protect scamster Siddaramaiah.

Shri Tejasvi Surya announced a significant development today, the Governor of Karnataka has granted permission to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with allegations related to the MUDA scam. For several months, the BJP, along with numerous social activists advocating for transparency and probity in public life in Karnataka, has been raising concerns about the irregularities and illegalities involved in the allotment of compensatory sites to Parvati Siddaramaiah by the MUDA authority.

Shri Surya stated that in the last couple of months, RTI activists had also written to the Governor seeking permission to initiate prosecution against the Chief Minister. The allegations against the Chief Minister are so grave and serious that the government of Karnataka, under Siddaramaiah's leadership, had previously appointed a one-man inquiry commission headed by a former retired IAS officer. A few weeks later, the CM and the Karnataka government appointed another commission to inquire into these allegations, this time headed by a former judge of the Karnataka High Court. The allegations are so serious that their own government has constituted not just one, but two commissions of inquiry.

Shri Surya stated that the Congress party's claim today that the Governor's decision to grant sanction for prosecution is politically motivated is incorrect and unfounded. The Karnataka government, at the highest levels, was itself convinced that there were irregularities, which is why they appointed two commissions to investigate the allegations.

Shri Surya stated that in 1992, three acres and sixteen gunthas of land in Kesare village near Mysuru was preliminarily acquired for the development of a layout. The final notification for the acquisition was issued in 1997, at which time Siddaramaiah was the Deputy Chief Minister. In 1998, a year after the final notification, while Siddaramaiah was still serving as Deputy CM, the Karnataka government denotified the very land. In 2003, under the Congress government, this denotified land was transferred back to the original owner. By 2004, after the layout had already been formed, Siddaramaiah’s son-in-law, Mallikarjun, purchased the same land.

Shri Surya stated that it is important to remember that during the preliminary notification, secondary notification and denotification of the land, Siddaramaiah was serving as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. After the land was purchased by his son-in-law, the same three acres and sixteen gunthas of land were transferred to Parvathi Siddaramaiah through a gift deed. Subsequently, they applied for compensation from MUDA. While other allottees were given sites in less desirable locations, Parvathi, being the CM’s wife, was allotted 14 sites in the most upscale and expensive area of Mysuru.

BJYM President Shri Tejasvi Surya stated that when MUDA decided to compensate Siddaramaiah's wife by granting her 14 sites in an upmarket locality, Siddaramaiah's son, Yathindra, who was then the MLA from Mysuru, was also a member of the MUDA council and participated in the meeting where this decision was made. The sequence of events were such that the land was denotified when Siddaramaiah was the Deputy CM, it was purchased by his son-in-law and later gifted to Parvathi when Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister, and once again, when Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister, his wife applied for compensation from MUDA. Yathindra, the CM's son and an MLA, then participated in the meeting that awarded 14 prime sites to his mother. Shri Surya concluded that this modus operandi of the MUDA scam is not unlike the National Herald case or the allegations surrounding Robert Vadra's land deals.

Shri Survya sarcastically commented that Congress leaders were known to be grounded, which, explain their strong connection to land. It was reported that the Hon'ble Governor had granted sanction, and various news channels reported that Congress leaders were presenting the instance as a Governor vs. Government issue. However, this has been not a matter of conflict between the two, but rather a serious issue involving irregularity and corruption. The Governor has followed the due process of law by issuing a show-cause notice to the Chief Minister. A special cabinet meeting had reportedly been convened, but the cabinet had not followed the legal precedents given, instead advising the Governor to reject the prosecution. After a careful review of the seriousness of the allegations, the nature of the complaint and in accordance with the relevant Supreme Court judgments, the Governor decided to grant prosecution in the case.

Shri Tejasvi Surya emphasized that the Karnataka BJP has been calling for the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with this serious corruption case. Now that the sanction has been granted, the criminal law has been set in motion. It is only natural that for an impartial and independent investigation, agencies reporting to Siddaramaiah as Chief Minister cannot be expected to operate freely and independently if they continue to be under his authority. Siddaramaiah must take moral responsibility and immediately step down as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, allowing for a fair and unbiased investigation to proceed.
