Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson Shri Prem Shukla addressed media persons at the party's headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday and expressed concern over the West Bengal government's reluctance to arrest Shahjahan Sheikh and criticized the opposition's silence on the matter. Shri Shukla accused West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee of shielding rape perpetrators and highlighted the imbalance in justice over appeasement. Shri Shukla demanded Shahjahan Sheikh's immediate arrest and justice for the women of Sandeshkhali.
Shri Prem Shukla highlighted Trinamool Congress’ General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee’s assertion that the West Bengal government cannot arrest Shahjahan Sheikh due to constraints imposed by the Calcutta High Court. Shri Shukla conveyed that it is beyond comprehension why the hands of the TMC tremble to take the required action against Shahjahan Sheikh. Shahjahan Sheikh and his brother have more than 800 cases registered against him.
BJP Spokesperson Shri Prem Shukla Shukla questioned why the West Bengal government feared Shahjahan Sheikh's arrest and pondered over the secrets he might possess, which instilled fear in Mamata Banerjee's government. The silence of the opposition throughout the incident, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who, despite her claim "Ladki hoon ladd sakti hoon" hasn't dared to tweet on this issue. Similarly, Rahul Gandhi, who often emphasizes justice during his Nyay Yatra, has not spoken a single word about providing justice to the women of Sandeshkhali. Furthermore, none of the Congress leaders or party members who usually express readiness to tweet on every issue, are not willing to make a single tweet on this matter.
Shri Prem Shukla highlighted that as soon as the high court indicates that there is no hindrance to any kind of arrest in this matter, despite that, one of the responsible TMC Leader, who has recently been nominated as a Member of Parliament, stated that Shahjahan Sheikh will be arrested within a week. This is a clear indication that TMC and Mamata Banerjee are well aware of where Shahjahan Sheikh is hiding. Even after the attacks directed towards the ED officials, Shahjahan Sheikh has not been apprehended to date. This implies that Mamata Banerjee has provided explicit protection to the perpetrators of rape, and no action has been taken in this matter as it normally would be. The opposition has also remained silent. The situation indicates that in the politics of appeasement, the weight of favoring the perpetrator over justice on the scales of justice has increased, leading to a tilt in favor of the perpetrator. And this fact is evident from the silence of all the leaders of the INDI alliance.
BJP Spokesperson Shri Prem Shukla demanded the immediate arrest of Shahjahan Sheikh, ensuring justice for the rape victims, and putting an end to the ruthlessness shown towards the civil society members protesting in this matter, and ensuring a fair investigation. Shri Shukla urged the INDI alliance members to break their silence on this issue. The leftist group (Lal Bindi Giroh) that becomes active in all matters should also speak up on this issue and support the affected women of Sandeshkhali.
