Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam addressed a press conference at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi on Saturday. During the press conference, Syed Zafar Islam criticized the Congress party for disregarding Income Tax Department rules and misleading the public when actions were taken accordingly. Zafar Islam highlighted that after the High Court rejected the Congress petition, they resorted to demonstrations to spread falsehoods. Syed Zafar Islam predicted that after such actions, Congress would remain in single digits in the upcoming elections.

Syed Zafar Islam highlighted that since the Congress party didn't receive any relief from the Income Tax department and the High Court, they have resorted to demonstrations to mislead people. He emphasised that ever since Congress received the notice from the Income Tax department for the payment of tax, they have been in a state of panic. Zafar Islam pointed out that donations are considered as income for any political party.

Dr. Syed Zafar Islam further emphasised that by adhering to the mandatory compliance outlined in section 13A of the Income Tax Act, political parties can qualify for tax exemption. However, the Congress failed to comply with Section 13A, thus violating it. After receiving an assessment order from the Income Tax Department, the Congress remained inactive for 33 months, and even after the Commissioner of Income Tax dismissed their appeal, they remained dormant for 10 months. Despite several reminders from the Income Tax Department for tax payment, the Congress did not respond to any of them. This behaviour suggests that the Congress believes itself to be above not only the Income tax department but also the laws of the country. When the Income Tax Department initiated the income tax recovery process under section 226(3) of the Income Tax Act, the Congress sought help from the Income Tax Tribunal and when denied, the party moved to the High Court.

Syed Zafar Islam stated that Congress is sowing confusion by claiming that their accounts have been frozen by the Income Tax Department. In reality, only the Lien amount has been frozen, while the remaining amount is not restricted. Syed Zafar Islam stated that, when the Income Tax department took legal action, Congress approached the High Court. The High Court assessed the evidence presented by the Income Tax department and observed that there was enough evidence indicating tax evasion by Congress, and Income of 520 crore has been hidden by the Congress party. Syed Zafar Islam mentioned that after all the reassessments before March 31, 2024, the liability of the Congress party will likely increase from ₹1823 crore to approximately ₹4000 crore. Zafar Islam stated that the Income Tax department provides all the necessary documents outlining the discrepancies, leading to the imposition of additional taxes. Syed Islam pointed out that Congress ignored the matter initially and didn't take cognizance and when rebuked by the High Court, Congress started protesting. Zafar Islam questioned whom the Congress is protesting against, whether it's the Income Tax or the High Court, as the High Court has given the verdict.

BJP’s National Spokesperson stated that all political parties should respect the highest institutions in the country, and it is the political responsibility of all parties, but the Congress party always disrespects them. The Congress party thinks that it is above the law and holds a dictatorial approach.  Zafar Islam mentioned that not just tax evasion, but from 2004 to 2014, Congress leaders committed several acts of corruption. But now it's Shri Narendra Modi's era where the laws are stringent. Lawlessness is no longer tolerated. Congress should acknowledge that the law will do its job, and if anyone breaks the law, appropriate actions will be taken. Zafar Islam pointed out that Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and other Congress leaders are attempting to intimidate central institutions. The more the Congress party tries to threaten or protest against these institutions, the more they are being exposed to the public as having accepted defeat. Congress has conceded defeat in elections and is now on the sidelines, which is why they prefer protests over legal action.

Syed Zafar Islam remarked that the party’s involvement in numerous corruption scandals, including 2G and Commonwealth, is questionable. He highlighted that Congress has been implicated in embezzling national funds worth ₹12 lakh crore  from various departments, failing to return them, and now the party even violates the law. Despite this, the leaders of the Congress party believe that central institutions are at their disposal.

Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam highlighted that the governance model of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, which the entire country is experiencing today, ensures that the law is equal for everyone. The Congress party wants to deceive the people of India, but the public knows very well that they are the ones who have committed theft and are now trying to cover it up. Zafar Islam conveyed that the public knows that “Kar ki chor hai, karti hai shor lekin vo party hai seenazor”. In 2019, Congress managed to secure double digits, but due to such actions, Congress will be reduced to single digits, in the upcoming elections. Zafar Islam emphasized that whenever the Congress party faces difficulties, it starts to cry foul to safeguard democracy, but the whole world knows that India is the mother of all democracies. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, democracy has persistently thrived and will continue to do so. Congress party makes baseless accusations but now the party  stands exposed in front of the public in every possible way.
