Bharatiya Janata Party Rajya Sabha MP and former Uttar Pradesh DGP Shri Brij Lal addressed a press conference at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi on Monday. During the press conference, the BJP criticized the Congress for spreading a false narrative that the BJP aims to abolish reservations. However, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has consistently been the strongest advocate for reservations, while the Congress party has a history of being against the interests of Dalits, SC/ST and OBC communities.

Shri Brij Lal emphasized that the Congress and other parties are spreading false narratives, misleading the public by claiming that the BJP intends to abolish reservation and alter the constitution. He pointed out that historically, Congress has been opposed to reservation policies and has acted against the principles of Dr. BR Ambedkar, as well as being anti-constitution and against the interests of SC, ST, and OBC communities. In 1961, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru wrote a letter to every Chief Minister expressing his disapproval of reservation. In Karnataka, the Congress party extended OBC reservation to Muslims. However, Babasaheb Ambedkar did not advocate reservation based on religion. In Andhra Pradesh, the Congress granted religious reservation to Muslims from the SC, ST and OBC quota. The Sachar Committee and Ranganath Mishra Commission did discuss the possibility of providing reservation to Muslims within the Dalit and OBC quotas. However, implementing reservations based solely on religion would indeed be against the principles of the Constitution. The Congress is the most anti-constitution party.

Shri Brij Lal emphasized that the abrogation of Article 370 has significantly benefited the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities in the region. Shri Brij Lal mentioned that despite completing his PhD, the fourth-generation son of a sanitation worker family, who had migrated from Punjab to Kashmir in 1958, was unable to secure a job due to the constraints of article 370. After the abrogation of Article 370, the primary beneficiaries were from the Dalit, Adivasi, SC/ST and Muslim backward communities. The Congress pledged to reinstate Article 370 if elected, demonstrating their anti-constitutional stance. It's important to note that Baba Saheb Ambedkar never advocated for the introduction of Article 370. However, Jawaharlal Nehru forcefully implemented it, disregarding Baba Ambedkar's concerns.

Shri Brij Lal highlighted that an Act was passed for Aligarh Muslim University in 1920, with the same provisions as the BHU Act. Contrary to popular belief, Aligarh Muslim University is not exclusively for minorities. However, due to Congress, SC/ST/OBC communities have not been granted reservations to date. In 1981, Indira Gandhi altered the provisions, depriving SC/ST and OBC communities of their rights. However, the Allahabad High Court rejected these changes, leading to an appeal to the Supreme Court. The Congress terminated reservations at Jamia Milia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University, demonstrating that the party opposes reservation policies in the country. It's noteworthy that leaders like Lalu Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav, and Tejashwi Yadav, who advocate for OBC upliftment, remained silent on this issue. Despite being the father of the Indian constitution, Baba Saheb Ambedkar was disrespected by the Congress, which even failed to confer Bharat Ratna upon him. Therefore, the Congress is viewed as anti-reservation, anti-Baba Saheb Ambedkar and anti-SC/ST/OBC.

Shri Brij Lal indirectly criticized INC leader Sam Pitroda's remarks on inheritance law, highlighting that according to Pitroda, Jawaharlal Nehru played a pivotal role in constitution-making rather than Baba Saheb Ambedkar. He pointed out that while the Congress accuses the BJP of altering the constitution, it was, in fact, the Congress party that made numerous changes to the constitution. Former PM Rajiv Gandhi openly advocated for constitutional changes if necessary. The Congress needs to clarify whether their advocacy for religious-based reservation doesn't infringe upon the rights of SC/ST and OBC communities and whether they are not altering the constitution. Examples from the past, such as in Undivided Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, demonstrate the setbacks to reservations caused by the Congress. Moreover, the Congress has not only insulted Baba Saheb Ambedkar but also overlooked his contributions. If Congress forms the government, they may revoke the rights of OBCs and allocate them to specific groups. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has repeatedly emphasized that no one can alter the reservations established by Baba Saheb Ambedkar.

Rajya Sabha MP pointed out that during the inauguration of the new parliament when PM Shri Narendra Modi walked into the new premises with the constitution in hand, many MPs followed suit. However, the Congress, TMC, and other opposition parties did not cooperate with the walk. He emphasized that the Congress and INDI Alliance are against Dalits, SC/ST, and Baba Saheb Ambedkar and the BJP will not allow them to succeed in their agenda. The narrative that the Congress is trying to spread will not work.
