BJP National President, Shri Amit Shah ji attended the Arya Yuva Maha Sammelan in Kurukshetra, Haryana, today, appealing to the youth of the country to be participants in the process of rebuilding the nation. Also present on the occasion were Governor of Haryana Acharya Devavrat, Chief Minister of Haryana Shri Manohar Lal Khattar and BJP national general secretary Shri Anil Jain.

Saluting the holy land where Lord Krishna had presented the unique gift of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita to the world, the BJP president said that he was standing today at the gurukula of Kurukshetra. He added that the seed that Swami Shraddhananda had sown has grown into a huge banyan tree. He said it was important to recall Rishi Dayananda Saraswati on the occasion. He said while the swami was born in Gujarat, it was this part of the old Punjab and north India that he made his workplace. When India was moving towards materialism and Industrial Revolution of the 19th century, Shri Shah said, it was for sure a divine intervention that several sages were born to regain India’s fast depleting spiritual glory. These holy souls, he said, cleaned the dust that our spiritual heritage had gathered owing to centuries of foreign rule to re-establish it. He said that holy souls like Swami Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Ramatirtha, Rishi Dayananda Saraswati, Lokmanya Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi helped revive the essentials of the Indian culture. Shri Shah said that he believed that the work that Rishi Dayananda Saraswati did to revive Hinduism including the Vedas and refresh our knowledge that had gathered dust for centuries is unparalleled. “If somebody is to be credited for the work of presenting to the world the Indian culture in its original form, it is Dayananda Saraswati,” Shri Shah said.

Shri Shah said, “Rishi Dayananda Saraswati not only enlivened our spiritual consciousness but also made us realize that it was futile to be spiritually conscious if the nation was not free and its people were slaves.” He said that several Indians followed in the footsteps of Rishi Dayananda Saraswati to contribute to the nation’s freedom struggle. Be it the armed revolutionaries or the non-violent freedom fighters, we find their roots in the Arya Samaj, he said.

The BJP president said that the establishment of the Arya Samaj was important to begin a modern interpretation of the Hindu Dharma or Arya Dharma. He said that the Arya Samaj formed in 1875 by Sage Dayananda is today ready to show the right path to the whole world. He quoted Lokmanya Tilak’s words about Rishi Dayananda: “Sage Dayananda is such a shining constellation on the Indian firmament whose light enlightened the people with the idea of Swaraj.” He said that Martyr Ramprasad Bismil, who sacrificed his life for the nation, was inspired by the Arya Samaj, too. Not only that, he said, “Under the aegis of the Arya Samaj, we have seen the fight against untouchability and child marriage, eradication of dowry, advent of widow remarriage and education of the people in ancient culture along with swadeshi and modern curricula.” He added that the Arya Samaj played a major role in the promotion of Hindi as a national language, too.

Shri Shah said, “Rishi Dayananda Saraswati had given us a slogan: ‘Let’s return to the Vedas.’ That is the foundation on which we stand here.” He said that Swami Shraddhananda and Mahatma Hansraj had established this gurukula in Kurukshetra. He said he was told that at least 1 lakh youth were being trained in Indian culture and educated in the modern sciences at the centre at present, which was no mean feat. He said that the contribution of Acharya Devavrat to the institution is unparalleled. When a person, he said, works selflessly to bring the youth on to the right path, without the desire of fame, then an umbrella institution such as this gurukula is realized. He said several acharyas (professors), internalizing the values of a gurukula and the Arya Samaj, have secured the spiritual heritage of the nation and made it scale greater heights.

The BJP president said that the country today had a government that wants the country to prosper, to be strong and safe. However, along with prosperity, strength and safety, he said, the BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji does not want its spiritual heights to diminish even a bit; it’s the domain where we must strive to scale even greater heights. He warned that we would risk losing our greatest investment for future generations, which is the spiritual heritage, if adopt a blind love for prosperity, desperate hope for strength and insatiable want for safety. He said that he believed that the “Indian culture and the Vedas have solutions for all the problems of the world”. “To deal with the challenges the world faces today, it has to, sooner or later, walk on the path shown by our culture,” he said, adding, “It is our responsibility to conserve and propagate the path paved by Maharshi Dayananda Saraswati by reviving the Vedas, through modern interpretations of our ancient culture to devise a unique pedagogy.”

Shri Shah said, “The government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji is working day and night to make India grow and develop.” He reminded the people that this was coincidentally also the year of Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya’s birth centenary celebrations. He said that the Bharatiya Janata Party surfaced out of Pt Upadhyaya’s philosophy of Integral Humanism. He said that the Prime Minister has accelerated the economy at an amazing rate and thus brought glory back to the nation. “It is a result of the efforts of Shri Narendrabhai Modi that the world has accepted a priceless heritage of the Indian culture in the form of International Yoga Day,” Shri Shah said. He said it was Shri Narendrabhai Modi who gifted foreign delegations copies of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita while telling them that the Gita had solutions to all the problems of the world. He said that the BJP and its government fully endorsed the thoughts and programmes of the Arya Samaj. “The path shown by Maharshi Dayananda is good for not India alone but also the world. Let’s walk that road for the benefit of the country and the world,” Shri Shah said.
