BJP National President Shri Amit Shah, addressed a public meeting organized by Sulabh International at Mahavir Enclave in New Delhi today and appealed to people to make sanitation integral part of life.
BJP president said, today I'm speaking from such a forum which is world most pious and holy work done by these people. He said, the Sulabh International’s Bindeshwar Pathak Ji who took the job of hygiene in his hand that in itself is a huge task; however this should have been completed long ago. He said that Shri Pathak Ji started his work of hygiene and sanitation in 1968 but it’s unfortunate that even after 20 years somebody had to start an ideological movement so that the facility of toilets are accepted widely. He said that there are three types of movement - religious movements, political movements and ideological movement. He further said that, when a person start a movement of ideology, it is not easy to convert an idea into a movement, there are lots of difficulties lie in his path because one has to just keep giving. He said, me and my whole party from bottom of my heart congratulated Shri Pathak Ji who made this task of hygiene his life's mantra.
Referring to Gandhi ji, Shri Shah said, after getting attached to the independence movement Gandhi ji Sharted the tour to the entire country and was trying to understand the problems of the country, if after coming from Africa he did not have visited India Gandhiji could not have grasped the basic things and freedom also could have eluded us. He understood at length problems of people with patience by travelling from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Gujarat to Kamarupa, he understanding this vast country and led the freedom of movement as well as absorbed variety of ideas and gave a message to the nation through his actions so that in the coming generations India remains uplifted for centuries. He said that among these ideas of Gandhi ji one of the ideas was of hygiene, but whether it is simplicity, nationalism or the point of khadi. Gandhi had made sanitation a key issue. He said that, all these were not directly connected to freedom movement but Gandhi Ji’s mission was not just freedom alone but his mission was making India strong on social parameters and get rid of the social evils one by one. That is the reason Gandhi ji made hygiene an important issue.
BJP president said, it is unfortunate that to nurture the culture of hygiene even after so many years of independence, someone have to lead the toilet campaign to promote and make it a habit. He said, When Shri Narendra Modi became Prime Minister there was problem of inflation in front of the country, border security, protection of women, employment, declining growth rate, there was many such. There were also some problems which was unseen did not see but still required elimination. He said the problems that appear was brilliantly tackled by Narendra Bhai for others he for the first time a prime Minister appealed from the ramparts of the Red Fort, to free India from the curse of the toilet and those who use to carry the excrete, then he forced the whole country to think about a problem which if we fail to address then we are incomplete. He said that if the sanitation program had already been run as a mass movement from the very first day after independence, then today this wouldn’t have remained a problem. He said that Shri Narendra Modi made many social problems the people’s movement - Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, Namami Gange and Clean India mission is part of the same movement. He said that to make the country free from open defecation as well as manual scavengers detested the business the Modi government has launched a major movement. He said that the top most priority of the Modi government is to free India from the manual scavengers of the detested curse.
Shri Shah said that more than 29 million toilets were built, along with the maintenance and dissemination of drive for the habit of using is all done by Indian government. He said that 2502 villages, 67 district and three state have been free from open defecation and manual scavenging, this is quite daunting task but we soon will be able to make the country free from this curse.
BJP president said the virtue of cleanliness was received from my mother; she was the ardent follower of Gandhi. He said that how to bring hundred percent waste to zero percent, this was disseminated to the entire world by Shri Pathak Ji. Shri Shah said that, Shri Pathak Ji, founder of Sulabh International, if all his awards are kept one side the work he did for sanitation and making free from the practice of manual scavenging will get more blessing of the people, Shri Shah urged. He said that those who give the cultural life for sanitation it is important to the people engaged in such engagement must be socially empowered. He said that to bring the change in society and how organizations should work to see this, the best example is Sulabh International. He once again congratulated Mr. Bindeshwar Pathak for his resolved to make the country clean and to continue to work ceaselessly for the mission.
