Press Release

Salient points of Press Conference of BJP National President Shri Amit Shah held at BJP Central Office

Congress party and Rahul Gandhi should explain what is their stand on illegal immigrants? Trinamool Congress, Mamata Banerjee and all other opposition parties should clarify what is their stand on this issue?

*************

Security of the country, security of the borders and the interest of our citizens is our highest priority, it is our commitment. The Congress should clarify whether the security of the country is an issue of concern for the Congress or not?

*************

The people who are talking about human rights should be concerned about human rights of the people of Assam first. Do people of Assam have no human rights?

*************

'NRC' has been made to protect human rights of Indian citizens. Those who are opposing 'NRC' should tell whether they are with the Bangladeshi infiltrators?

*************

The soul of 'Assam Accord' is the National Register of Citizens (NRC). We believe that updation of NRC is in the interest of the country's security and our citizens. The BJP is firm that the NRC should be implemented fully and firmly according to the order of the Supreme Court.

*************

Due to the impact of life infiltration in Assam, the people of Assam, especially the students, started a mass movement. Hundreds of youth were martyred and then 'Assam Accord' came into existence. On August 14, 1985, the then Prime Minister Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi signed on this Accord

*************

Congress had started work on 'NRC' in 1985 and again Congress resumed it in 2005, but due to appeasement politics, Congress did not have the courage to implement it. We showed courage and implemented it under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

*************

The names of suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators have been removed from 'NRC' or the names that could not produce which haven’t evidence of being Indian. Those, whose names don’t appear in the register, will have sufficient opportunities to offer proof of their Indian identity.

*************

Some Opposition Parties are lying that injustice is being done to the people of other states living in Assam due to 'NRC'. I want to make it clear that no injustice will be done to any Indian citizen, people of any state of the country  staying in Assam. They just need to verify their citizenship.

*************

Opposition parties are also spreading confusion that due to 'NRC' there will be clashes between the states. The opposition is trying to mislead the people of the country by spreading misconceptions, I strongly condemn it.

*************

Congress has a habit of changing their stand. Indira Gandhi herself, while being the Prime Minister, said that there is no place for any infiltrators in the country. Not only this, P. Chidambaram while being the Home Minister of the Congress-Sonia Gandhi Government, also said that Bangladeshi infiltrators would be excluded from Indian Citizenship.

*************

When the Congress party is in power, then their stand is something else, and when they are outside of power, then something else. The Bharatiya Janata Party's stand is quite clear that 'NRC' should be fully & firmly implemented.

*************

Even when we were in opposition, and today when we are in power, we are firm on our principle that there is no place for infiltrators in this country and only Indians have the rights on the resources of the country.

*************

There is scaremongering by some opposition parties that 'NRC' will cause civil war. The Trinamool Chairperson should clarify what is the basis of this talk? This is a legal process under the supervision of the Supreme Court and the law will prevail.

*************
