Press Briefing of the National Delegates regarding the Mamita Meher murder case

A girl  from a lower middle class family Mamita Meher (24) who was working as the Principal at the Sunshine School was brutally murdered following a conspiracy against her when she threatened to expose the sex racket going in the school . The main accused Gobind Sahu was a close aide of the Home minister of Odisha Capt. Dibyashankar Mishra. A State wide agitation is going on since then by the State Women Wing of BJP.

Following the instructions of BJP National President Shri J.P Nadda, a three member National delegation visited the State and took an overview of the situation on ground. The team consisting of Mahila Morcha National President Smt. Vanathi Srinivasan, Member of Parliament Smt. Sunita Duggal and MLA Smt Sreerupa Mitra visited the spot of incident at Mahaling of Kalahandi district. Then the team visited the the family of the deceased girl and held extensive discussion with them

On the morning of 30^th October, the team of delegates reached Bhubaneswar where they were received by the Bhubaneswar district Mahila Morcha team along with the State Mahila Morcha team.

In a press briefing held at the State Party Office, Smt. Srinivasan and the other team members gave an account of the ground situation. Smt Srinivasan categorically stated that for a fair and just trial the Home minister should step down from his post. His position of Home Minister can be a hurdle to the investigation and subsequent trial.

Smt. Sreerupa stated that the victim’s family should be given financial compensation under the Victim Compensation Fund, so that the traumatized mother of the girl can be treated properly. Along with  that the witnesses  of the incident  should be given protection  under the Witness  Protection  Program  of the National Legal Services  Authority.

The press briefing  was concluded by Smt. Duggal with a demand for CBI inquiry into the case. She requested  the State Government  to take into consideration and order a CBI probe immediately.

After the Press conference, the team left for Cuttack to take part in a rally which was organized by the Cuttack Mohilamorcha. The rally started from Sunshine field in Cuttack and ending at the SP office. A State wide agitation which would continue  from today was inaugurated by Smt Vanathi  Srinivasan. The agitation would be held under the guidance  of MahilaMorcha State President  Smt Smruti Patnaik till justice is administred to the victim and Home Minister Dibyasankar Mishra booked by the investigating agencies.
