Salient points of press statement of Hon'ble Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal & Dr. Sumeet Bhasin (Director at PPRC) on “Difference That We Made in Tripura”

During the Congress party’s and Communist party’s rule, Tripura was a deprived state. But now under the leadership and guidance of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, the double engine government of the Bharatiya Janata Party has taken Tripura towards a prosperous, happy and developed Tripura.

Hon’ble Prime Minister gave the mantra of “HIRA” for the development of North East Region i.e., Highways, Internet, Railways and Airways. During the Congress and Communist party rule, Tripura was a deprived state but the double engine government of the BJP has taken Tripura towards a prospective, happy and developed state.

In Tripura, the government of the Communist party meant deteriorated law and order that ranges from rapes, bandh, strikes, political killings and political vendetta etc. Whereas, the Bharatiya Janata Party government means connectivity, internet, hospitals and corruption -free and development-oriented government.

Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin): Over 4.53 lakh household toilets constructed since 2nd Oct 2014 in rural areas in Tripura. 23,79,119 beneficiaries have been given loans under the MUDRA scheme, wherein Rs 11,764 crore have been sanctioned for the state.

Amount Guaranteed under Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) in view of COVID crisis is Rs. 295.08 Crore. 100% household electrification done by electrifying 1.39 lakh households across Tripura. Total electrified households’ stands at 7.92 lakh.

The government of Tripura has given 2,81,573 (2.82 lakh) LPG connections in the state under PM Ujjwala Yojana. Over 4 lakh rural households provided with tap water connections since 15th Aug, 2019 under JJM

Increased the average income of farmers in the state by 98% from Rs. 6,580 in 2015 to Rs. 13,590 in 2022. Under PM Kisan, 2.4 lakh farmers are credited with Rs. 6,000 worth Rs. 508 crores. Provided collateral-free loans to 2.7 lakh farmers through KCC worth Rs. 1,386 crores.

Procured more than 1.3 lakh MT paddy, benefitting more than 70,000 farmers worth Rs. 243 crores. Provided health insurance of Rs. 5 lakhs to around 13.8 lakh beneficiaries and settled claims of Rs. 106 crores under the Ayushman Bharat.

Established new PHCs, increasing the number from 83 PHCs in 2018 to 117 PHCs in 2022. Distributed smartphones to 27,000 youths under the Mukhya Mantri Yuva Yogayog Yojana.

Increased the cadre strength of Tripura Health Services from 1,480 personnel to 2,170 personnel. Expanded the 24*7 ambulance services in the state from 148 in 2018 to 238 in 2022.

Increased the per capita income by 76% across households, from Rs. 90,000 in 2018 to Rs. 1.58 lakh in 2022.

The BJP govt. in Tripura established the first Special Economic Zone in Sabroom which will provide 5,000 employment opportunities. Further, established a District Industry Centre (DIC) at every district to cater to the needs of budding entrepreneurs.

Established IIIT in Agartala, National Law University in Agartala and the Centre for National Forensics Science University in Agartala. Around 50 schools are being revamped and upgraded to provide quality education under Initiated Mission Vidyajyoti.

Distributed free textbooks to more than 1.2 lakh students. Provided nutritious meals to more than 2.5 lakh children in primary schools and 1.5 lakh children in secondary schools in an effort to reduce malnutrition.

Under the PM Gram Sadak Yojana, a total of 22,787 kms of rural roads has been built in the state of Tripura, connecting 9,834 habitations at an expense of Rs 14,381 crores since 2018.

Completed the construction of the International Terminal Building at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport with an investment of Rs. 450 crores and Maitry Setu over the Feni River

Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal and Dr. Sumit Bhasin (Director at Public Policy Research Center i.e. PPRC) addressed a joint press conference at the Central Office of Bharatiya Janata Party today and released the “Research Report” of PPRC, based on public welfare and development works done in Tripura under the double engine BJP government of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. The Public Policy Research Center has undertaken research on the development activities in Tripura in the last five years. Six researchers have prepared the report after spending three months on the ground.

 

Shri Sonowal said that under the leadership and guidance of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, the Bharatiya Janata Party is moving ahead to fulfill the dream of developed Tripura. Congress ruled the country for almost 60 years. They never gave prominence to the North-East in the national agenda. Congress made "Look East Policy" but never tried to connect it with the ground reality. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji changed the “Look East” policy with “Act East” policy and made the North-East region the gateway to the country's development. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had said that “Transformation is possible only through transportation.”

 

Shri Sonowal added that during the Congress party’s and Communist party’s rule, Tripura was a deprived state. The press conference provided an overview of the accomplishments and multitude of initiatives performed by the Government of Tripura under Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the last five years. The press conference highlighted that the State of Tripura in the last five years have been completely transformed by the BJP government by successfully ushering an inclusive, development-oriented and corruption-free governance. Since 2018, the BJP led Tripura government has been working on the principle of “sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas aur sabka prayas” and ensured that the development reaches the last person in the system.

 

Explaining the report “Difference That We Made In Tripura”, of PPRC, Dr. Sumeet Bhasin said that since 2018, the BJP-led Government of India has left no stone unturned to ensure energy access to all by last mile connectivity and electricity connections to all remaining un-electrified households in rural as well as urban areas to achieve universal household electrification in the country. Today, 100% household electrification is done by electrifying 1.39 lakh households across Tripura. Total electrified households stand at 7.92 lakh. In addition to this, the government has constructed over 4.53 lakh household toilets since 2nd Oct 2014 in rural areas in Tripura under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). Under Har Ghar Jal, over 4 lakh rural households have been provided with tap water connections since 15th Aug, 2019. In the field of education, the BJP govt. established IIIT in Agartala, National Law University in Agartala and the Centre for National Forensics Science University in Agartala. Around 50 schools are being revamped and upgraded to provide quality education under Initiated Mission Vidyajyoti.

 

The state of Tripura augmented the health infrastructure by establishing new Primary Health Centres increasing the number from 83 PHCs in 2018 to 117 PHCs in 2022. Increased the cadre strength of Tripura Health Services from 1,480 personnel to 2,170 personnel. Expanded the 24*7 ambulance services in the state from 148 in 2018 to 238 in 2022. Under PM JAY, the government provided health insurance of Rs. 5 lakhs to around 13.8 lakh beneficiaries and settled claims of Rs. 106 crores.

 

The conference also highlighted the massive infrastructure development in the state such as under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, a total of 22,787 kms of rural roads has been built in the state of Tripura, connecting 9,834 habitations at an expense of Rs 14,381 crores since 2018. Further, the government successfully completed the construction of the International Terminal Building at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport with an investment of Rs. 450 crores and Maitry Setu over the Feni River.

 

During the BJP’s tenure, the state registered a decrease in the crime rate by 22% and crimes against women by 26.6% since 2019.  Further, the government of Tripura provided employment opportunities to more than 3.5 lakh women by increasing the number of SHGs from 4,100 in 2018 to 40,000 in 2022. Provided free education to female students till graduation. Reserved 33% of seats in all Government jobs for women. Further, there has been an increase in monthly pensions of senior citizens and widows from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 2000 for 3.81 lakh beneficiaries.

 

The conference also informed about the initiatives taken for the welfare of children and youth of the state of Tripura. The government distributed smartphones to 27,000 youths under the Mukhya Mantri Yuva Yogayog Yojana. The government distributed free textbooks to more than 1.2 lakh students. Provided nutritious meals to more than 2.5 lakh children in primary schools and 1.5 lakh children in secondary schools in an effort to reduce malnutrition.

 

The conference also highlighted an increase in the per capita income by 76% across households, from Rs. 90,000 in 2018 to Rs. 1.58 lakh in 2022.
