SALIENT POINTS OF THE PRESS CONFERENCE OF THE BJP NATIONAL SPOKESPERSON DR SUDHANSHU TRIVEDI HELD TODAY REGARDING THE STATE SPONSORED VIOLENCE IN THE WEST BENGAL PANCHAYAT ELECTIONS

The continuing violence in the Panchayat elections in West Bengal is very unfortunate and disturbing. Elections are considered as the lifeline of a healthy democracy, but what is happening today in West Bengal is similar to what used to happen in Bihar in the nineties. The West Bengal government has committed the sin of indulging in bloodshed in this festival of democracy in the state. The Mamata Banerjee led West Bengal government has been exposed by the misuse of constitutional bodies and by not providing security to the people and contestants.

Deployment of central security forces in the Panchayat elections in West Bengal has been ordered by the court. The court has categorically stated that when the state election commission has asked for additional forces, then how can the West Bengal government say that central forces should not be allowed to enter the state? This clearly highlights that the West Bengal government always wanted to misuse state forces in their favour. I believe that the Election Commission has been keeping a close eye on the issue. If the Election Commission had failed to be alert and vigilant, and has the court not dealt the matter seriously and strictly then the Panchayat elections in West Bengal would have been disastrous.

The Bharatiya Janata Party workers are being brutally murdered, they are being tortured, still our leaders and workers are fighting this battle of democracy with full commitment and firm resolve. This signifies the faith and trust the Bharatiya Janata Party has towards our democracy. Whatever the West Bengal government is doing in the state, it is the murder of democracy, it is gross misuse of power and position, it is an attempt to influence the Panchayat elections in its favour through violence.

In the last assembly elections in West Bengal no voting took place in several polling booths due to violence and open threats by the Trinamool Congress party. There is massive violence taking place in West Bengal panchayat elections, but other opposition parties have shut their eyes. Other opposition parties cannot see the murder of democracy in West Bengal and ironically they are finding nothing wrong in it. And this is because these people are the once who can only understand the opposition of the Bharatiya Janata Party and our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, and for this they are ready to sacrifice their own party workers and leaders. These opposition parties cannot see the bloodshed of their own workers as they are least bothered about saving our democracy.

For the past many years violence has been continuing in West Bengal. This violence is increasing election after election. Situation is getting worse in the state. Workers and leaders of all opposition parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Communists and the Congress party,  are being killed. But neither the Communists nor the Congress party have ever protested against it and sought justice for those innocent political workers killed in this state sponsored violence.

Today West Bengal stands at a very dangerous and worrying crossroads because the rival factions of the Trinamool Congress party are indulging in violence and killing each other. This shows that the land of West Bengal, which used to be called as Bhadralok, which used to be known for its rich art and culture, that West Bengal is today been ruined under the Trinamool Congress government where criminals and anti social elements are ruling the roost under the patronage of West Bengal government.

The Trinamool Congress government is hand in glove with criminals and anti social elements. The Trinamool Congress government has committed the sin of hurting the pride and honour of West Bengal, and therefore it is guilty of murdering the democratic values and also lowering the prestige and honour of the people of West Bengal.
